Uh… my main character is mind controlled into killing the person he's in love with.

Y'know, not that he didn't already have depression and PTSD. But I figured I'd give him some extra bonus trauma.

And, uh… before all that he was tortured. For most of his life.

Yeah… I like to torture Zenith.

Marya was manipulated and mind controlled by Oleander for the duration of their marriage, which ended with her being forced to kill one of his advisers and then herself via mind-control.

Scave was in the actual story for only a few minutes before dying because Nils Aaby decided to crunch his skull with his hands

I gave Scave a whole backstory and such, but he was only there for a while in the actual story before dying. Dying by shattered skull from an alien-robot-human thing.

That’s probably a bad thing I’ve done in one of my stories. Imagine dying to a weird humanoid you found in a bunker

To be fair though Scave was kinda asking for it, fella kept taunting Nils so Nils literally had to take matters into his own hands. Though Nils is partially at fault here as well to be fair.

But still, Scave died by shattered skull and it sure as hell wasnt a fast death either.

I'm guilty of putting characters through some tough times, and maybe one of the worst ones that I felt a little bad about after writing it in was isolating my 16 year old protag in a supermax jail for half of her lifetime. :(
It had to be done. Sorry Harlow

Don't you dare feel guilt. We're writers. We feel no shame. We put the characters we've poured our hearts into in the most perilous of situations, for the sake of CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

Unfortunately it spoils the story itself, but this is by far the worst thing I've done to my characters -

My OC is part of a rebellion. His love interest is at first, but her views change. My OC is so angry with his love interest that he descends down a path of darkness and becomes… evil. In fact, my OC is so fueled by rage that he lets nothing stand in the way of his victory. He kills his love interest. Then he realizes that he was dead wrong about his beliefs, and throws himself off a balcony in grief.

@AcadianBrilliance Beautiful.

@najuploads

I gave my character everything that he has ever wanted but never had, ( a family, a chance to be himself, access to the outdoors, potential for love etc) and guilt tripped him into giving it all up and going back to a place where he was hated, disrespected, and where his voice didn't mater.
