Ah, yes, the White River Guard. They were dressed in more mountain men clothing than uniforms, which I liked. One of them stopped by the inn for a game of checkers - Sargent Samuel Hastings, real name Dwight - we're good friends. I was losing and then the rest of the militia came to escort him to the grove for festivities and he told the entire freaking crowd "yes, I'm coming…this young lady here was saved by the bell, I was just about to massacre her in a game of checkers!"

I was drinking shrub the Curtis family had made and they put just a little too much vinegar in, that or they didn't leave it to sit for long enough, but it kind of burnt my throat on the first sip and I coughed just the tiniest bit. I had been looking at Jamie - real name Marshall, my nickname for him is small frye - while taking the sip with a dead serious expression on my face and then I did this weird little cough and he burst out laughing
