“That we will,” Tohru laughed nervously, “I guess it was better a coward like me than actually getting caught though, huh?”
He tilted his head, smiling just a little.

“That we will,” Tohru laughed nervously, “I guess it was better a coward like me than actually getting caught though, huh?”
He tilted his head, smiling just a little.
He looked over at Tohru, laughing a little. "Yeah, I guess so." he replied with a shrug. "As I have no interest in being involved with the rebellion."
group
“Well, no one likes being exploited,” Tohru said, “I’m not too keen on joining them myself. I feel like a lot of people die there, and they just don’t… care. Everyone who joins is just another body to fill their ranks, and you would be a figurehead.”
Tohru shuddered at the thought. He’d known people to die there. Very personally known them.
Davin nodded a little bit. "Yeah. And I've got no wish to be a figurehead." To be honest, he obviously wasn't a fan of the Empire either. But that didn't mean he automatically supported the rebellion.
group
“I feel like there are no ‘good guys,’ you know?” Tohru sighed, “And it’s impossible to be the good guy when you’re alone.”
He nodded a little. "Trust me, I'm aware of that." He replied, looking over at Tohru. "One group wiped my people out and the other just wants to use them as a symbol. If they cared so much, they would have been there when we needed them."
group
“Yeah, my thoughts exactly,” Tohru sighed, “And it’s too late to fix it. I could understand if they wanted to assist in hiding you after a tragic event they couldn’t stop, but they really don’t seem to care enough to go about it in an actual helpful way.”
Davin shrugged a little bit. "Yeah." He replied simply, shrugging his shoulders. "They're just looking to profit off of my people."
group
“It’s horrible, but… yeah, that’s exactly what they’re doing,” Tohru sighed.
Meanwhile my sorry ass is sitting over here worrying about whatever minor problems I cause. Or maybe they’re not minor…
Davin nodded faintly. "Yeah." He replied, closing his eyes for a moment and letting out a slow breath.
group
“How are you really?” Tohru asked, “I know the last few days have kind of sucked probably.”
"I'm…fine, really." He replied with a shrug. "As fine as can be expected, anyways." He ran a hand through his hair.
group
“Yeah… Just like… let me know if I can do anything, even if it’s just as little as making a meal or taking care of the day’s cleaning,” Tohru offered, “Or giving you someone to talk to.”
Davin's mouth twitched in a sad little smile. "Yeah, of course. Thank you, Tohru." he replied, looking over at the other man.
group
Tohru gave a curt nod.
“And I’m not saying it just to be nice,” he affirmed, “I’m serious.”
"Alright." he replied, stretching a little bit and looking over at Tohru. "Thank you, then. Really."
group
“Of course,” Tohru said.
He had his foot tapping kind of nervously against the floor. His chest felt a little tight again. He’s said something stupid along the way probably.
Davin looked over at him. "Are you feeling any better, or?" he asked, genuinely concerned for the other's wellbeing.
group
“Better than before, but not entirely,” Tohru said softly, “I dunno, I’ve been like… intensely worried about what I’m putting you through. I think that’s what set it off. It’s kind of bullshit because I usually can deal with targets to kill without overthinking it, but… I feel like I’ve done a lot more wrong here.”
Davin blinked. "Ah. I…you really aren't putting me through anything all that different. In fact, it's…better. Because I've got company, and someone who knows who I am."
group
Tohru tilted his head.
“You say that, but it still sucks. I’m glad I can provide you some company, though I don’t make the best company as well… as someone who tried to hunt you down. It doesn’t feel like a knife at your throat? That I could give you to the resistance if I wanted to?”
"I've been in that position before, where someone used what I am to keep me tied down. So far…you haven't been like him." Davin replied slowly.
group
“I’m glad, but… I wish I didn’t have that leverage. I would never use it. I’m not that impulsive that I’d do it on a whim. But it still feels wrong,” Tohru admitted.
He shrugged a little. "It's what I risk by telling anyone, Tohru. I don't…there's nothing that can be done about it."
group
“Okay, fair enough,” Tohru sighed, “But I forced you to reveal your identity. It’s not great, but I guess we should make the most of it.”
He shrugged a little bit. "Considering the context that happened in…you probably would have found out anyways."
group
“Ah… well… yeah…” Tohru sighed, “I’m not forward enough to pick anyone up at a party though. Or go to a party, for that matter.”
His voice lightened up a little bit.
“I think you’re pretty cool, and well… we wouldn’t have met if not for all of this.”
"Ha. Well. It's fun enough." he replied with a faint smile, looking over at him. "I think you're pretty cool too."
group
Tohru smiled a bit.
He’s just saying that, right?
“Ah… thanks…”
He thought back to that night. Tohru almost wished they could dance together again, but it didn’t seem appropriate at this point.
Davin nodded a little, looking over at him with a little smile on his face. "Of course."
