Tohru bit his lip.
"You don't have to apologize. That's a reasonable response," he said, his voice wavering a bit with concern, "Would you rather do trim, or detailing, or have decor in that color we can put away, if it becomes too much? Or would you rather none at all? And if you're not feeling it right now, you can make that decision later, yeah?"
He flashed Davin a slight smile.
Davin nodded a little. "I…I think that, uhm… decorations or trim would be fine, just…not a full wall." He replied, trying to return the smile.

"Of course," Tohru replied, "I do care about your comfort, you know. You can wait to decide if you want."
He nodded a bit.
"I'll go see if they can mix us these shades of blue and green, and if you see anything else you like for the bathroom and living room, let me know."
He nodded. "Okay. Thank you, Tohru." He said, giving the other man a soft little smile. He started to look around, biting his lip a little bit.

Tohru headed up to the counter to see if the guy standing there would start preparing some paint for them. He showed the guy the cards he held with the colors he and Davin had picked out.
"New place? Or just trying out new colors?" the guy asked, glancing between him and Davin.
Tohru was a little taken aback by him trying to make conversation.
"O-oh, yeah. We just moved here. Place is kinda dull right now, honestly. Thought we'd brighten it up, make it more like home."
The guy smiled and nodded.
"Nice, nice."
"Mhm…"
Tohru felt awkward. He barely wanted to talk- gods forbid small talk.
Davin forced a quick smile. "We just moved here. Any recommendations for…I don't know, leisure, or work, or whatever?" he asked. He knew that the deep hood he always wore made some people ill-at-ease, so he did his best to combat that.

"Yeah, yeah. I can give you the best grocery stores and all that, and I'll tell you some of the best places to hang out," the guy said, launching into a further explanation.
After he had finished, he asked, "So where are you two from, and what's your deal? You two family, business partners? Something else?"
Tohru scanned the man up and down, a bit concerned by the questioning.
"That's not really something you need to know, is it?" Tohru murmured.
It wasn't quite hostility that sat under his voice. It was more of an unease than anything.
Davin flashed another quick smile. "Friends." he said, not wanting anything to go wrong. He didn't really know what he and Tohru were, truth be told, but friends worked as a label, for now.

Tohru nodded in agreement. That worked.
He looked to the side, a little afraid that he'd come off too harshly.
"Well… thanks. If you don't mind, we're going to keep looking around," he added
Davin nodded a little, moving to keep walking. He chewed on his lower lip for a moment, taking a deep breath.

"Sorry I got tense. I just… He was making me uncomfortable, and I'm not sure why. Maybe I'm worried someone will find out?"
Tohru let out a soft sigh.
"It's fine." Davin replied. "I've…learned that a smile and being friendly is a better way to stay safe. If you're prickly and rude, people just get more in your face. If you defuse it with a smile, it's easier to just keep moving."

"Ah, yeah… ugh…" Tohru murmured, "I don't even have a good excuse there. He was just being friendly."
He rubbed at his face.
"Seems as if the whole bounty hunter lifestyle really has made me a bit of an asshole, huh?"
He smiled a little. "Yeah, but…we all have our different ways of coping and surviving." he replied.

"I suppose. But it's kind of cool to be able to make small talk like a normal person," Tohru chuckled.
"How many days until I lose my job for snapping at a customer? We can make a bet on this one," he joked.
He laughed softly. "Mm…it's not that hard, though." he looked over at Tohru.

"Ahh- it makes me nervous beyond belief, though," Tohru admitted, "I'd just… rather not…"
He shook his head a bit.
"Maybe it'll be easier when all my conversation targets are drunk."
He laughed again. "Yeah. You're a bartender, you'll be fine." he smiled over at Tohru.

"Yeah, probably getting too worked up, huh?" he replied.
"Anyway, want to try to find some pillows?"
"Yeah. And yes, let's find some pillows." he looked up at the signs, and headed towards the correct section.

Tohru followed the other quietly. Why was it that he always acted like a dumbass in front of him? He tried to shake the thought away.
"These are kinda nice," he said, picking up a dark red pillow that had a soft case.
It wasn't fuzzy enough that it looked tacky- just enough to be comfortable.
"Perhaps in a different color though."
He hummed faintly. "Maybe in a cream color?" He suggested. "Or something like that." He looked over at Tohru.

"Yeah, let's see if they have something like that," he agreed, continuing down the aisle.
"I hope so, because a lot of these are just… decorative, you know?"
"Yeah. I want comfortable stuff, not just… decorative shit." He said, smiling over at Tohru.

"Yeah- oh, there's some more," Tohru said, turning to the other side of the aisle, "Hm, how are these?"

He examined them. "Those look like they should work."

(Me neither, I have an exam to take personally, so it's all good)
"Great… let's see, we've got the couch, the armchair… How many do we get? Three maybe?" Tohru asked, starting by picking up two of the pillows.

"Mm…three sounds about right, yeah." Davin agreed with a smile, grabbing a third.

"Alright, then. What next?" Tohru asked, placing them in the cart.
He grabbed the cart's handle and tightened his grip on it.
He hummed faintly. "I…don't know. We've got paint, pillows…maybe some spare blankets?"
