Davin was still confused. Tohru had said he was meeting up with Vex. So why was Vex here? "I'm Davin, yeah. Tohru's friend. I got the job." he started to ring up the items, trying to figure out if he could ask Vex about meeting up with Tohru. "Are you…going out with Tohru tonight?" he finally asked, punching in some of the numbers on the register. "Or…?"

Vex tilted his head a bit. "No, I just got off work. Headed straight home. It's been a long day," he said, "Why do you ask? Did he say something about me?"
Vex passed his card over to pay.
Tohru rifled through his bag on the side of the apartment building, searching for anything nonlethal he had on hand. He still had his cuffs. She was small enough, and she was intoxicated. He figured it was only fair to leave her alive and let someone else pass judgement. But if she fought back too hard, he would pull the trigger.
It was a warmer night, and Tohru's target had a window cracked open. That would be his entry point, and he should be able to take her by surprise.
Davin's brows pulled together in a slightly confused frown. "I…yeah, he said something about plans to meet up, but maybe he meant he was thinking about it? I'm not really sure." he thought that Tohru had said he was meeting up with Vex, but maybe he had misheard.
group
"I don't really know," Vex replied with a shrug, "He didn't even ask me. If you see him before I do, tell him I'd be happy to hang out. He doesn't have to be shy. But hey, nice running into you here. I'm a regular, so I'll probably be seeing you sometimes at least."
Tohru scaled the fire escape on the side of the building, careful to not make too much noise and avoid all other windows. When he got to the woman's bedroom, he saw her passed out in bed, still in the clothes she had gone out in. Tohru stepped into the apartment, cuffs out and ready to snap on her wrists. She didn't move. At first, he was afraid that she was dead. But it couldn't have happened that fast. He lost sight of her for ten minutes. But she was still breathing. Just out cold. Too much to drink? Maybe she'd been drugged.
Regardless, it made Tohru’s job way too easy. He rarely had a target fall so easily into his lap. He sent out a notification to the agency and waited for someone to meet him.
Davin nodded a little. "Probably meant to and forget, I suppose." he replied, shrugging his shoulders. "It was nice to see you, I hope we do see each other again." he gave Vex a quick smile, even though he knew facial expressions could be difficult for others to see because of the shadows caused by his hood. He hated the thing, but it was necessary if he wanted to go undetected.

"Yes, it's good to see you too," Vex agreed, a tired smile spreading across his face, "Anyway, I'm headed home. Today was something else. I had to clean vomit out of the bathrooms, which is a bit… more than we normally have to deal with. I just want to sit in the shower for an hour."
Tohru got his pay for the job. It was a pretty well-paying job for one that had been so strangely easy, but he would gladly take it. He started on his walk home.
Davin grimaced. "Gross. Good night." he replied, waving as Vex walked out the door. Davin still had about an hour left of his shift, and so he wondered just what to do now.

Tohru managed to get home before Davin. No blood to clean up, no injuries. Everything went well this time. He changed into something more comfortable when he got home and pulled the garment he bought for Davin.
Gods, I hope he actually likes it…
Davin eventually finished up his shift, and headed home. The streets were dark, and he could hear people every now and again. He did his best to steer clear of anyone else, but it was still a pain. He got home, and opened the door to the apartment.

Tohru was sitting in the living room, working on some art when Davin got home. He greeted the other when he walked in, but his heart started pounding. Tohru almost hoped that Davin couldn't hear it.
"So, ah, I saw Vex at work today." Davin said slowly, taking off his cloak and looking over at Tohru. "He said he didn't know anything about meeting up with you." he took a deep breath.
group
Tohru almost panicked at first. He exhaled slowly, trying to think of how to cover his own ass.
"I lied," he said, "I- I actually went out to get you something. Let me go grab it."
He went back into the bedroom to get the garment he bought for Davin. Tohru held it up and passed it over.
"I hope you like it alright. I thought the hood on it might work well for you."
He hoped the excuse was good enough. And if it wasn't, maybe the gift would distract Davin from that fact.
Davin studied him, then the garment Tohru had handed to him. "Oh. I…" he trailed off, taking a deep breath. "It's lovely, Tohru. But, please don't lie to me. Just say you're going out. There's no reason to tell me it is with Vex if it is not with him."
group
"Yeah, in hindsight, I probably could've just said that," Tohru replied with a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'm sorry. I won't make a habit of it."
He nodded a little bit. "Thank you." he said softly, still carefully holding the garment. "And thank you for this, as well. It was thoughtful of you."
group
"You're welcome," Tohru replied with a slight smile, "I just wanted to get you something. Kind of just because, I guess."
He could feel heat rising into his cheeks and a slight fluttering in his stomach.
He gave Tohru a soft, slightly tired smile. "Yeah. It really was thoughtful of you." he ran a hand through his hair, unsure what else to say.

Tohru sank down into the couch, continuing on his drawing.
"So, how was work? Do you think it's all going to work out well for you?" he asked.
Davin sat down, letting out a soft breath. "It was fine." he said softly. "It's just a bit exhausting. But it's fine."
group
"As work tends to be," Tohru agreed with a laugh, "But fine is… good, I guess? As long as things aren't bad? Plus, I'm sure once you're fully trained, it'll be much easier."
Tohru put down his device for a moment.
"Yeah. Plus money." he said, smiling a little bit. "That way we can pay rent easily enough."
group
"Money is nice," Tohru agreed, "Rent, maybe treat ourselves here and there. Life will be good."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Listen, the bar kinda sucks. The other staff are nice, the clientele is rowdy. But I swear drunk people tip better."
"It'll be great." Davin agreed. He raised his eyebrows faintly as he listende, and nodded. "I bet they do."

(Do you want to skip ahead to something soon, maybe? Or do you have any additional plot ideas?)
(we can skip, yeah. i don't really have any ideas currently)
group
(Okay, want to skip ahead to basically how Davin ends up finding out about Tohru's little uh… "side hustle"? I'm thinking maybe he goes to do his job, accidentally leaving his device at home and open on information about the target? And he's injured pretty substantially on the job or something and calls on Davin for help?)
(sure! that would work!)
group
(Great, I can start, if that's alright?)
(yeah sure!)

Tohru packed up his things and prepared to go to "work." What Davin didn't know is that he was hiding various weapons on his person, about to hunt down another person from the cartel that his last target worked for. It had been at least a week since that incident, and he was ready for a new, tougher job.
"I'm about to leave," Tohru said to Davin with a nod, "Need anything while I'm out?"
