"Oh, as if the Everlasting Woods wasn't a big enough guard." Oci groaned. "Then they had to throw some creature in there. It's probably magical. Nothing else could survive in there."
"Oh, as if the Everlasting Woods wasn't a big enough guard." Oci groaned. "Then they had to throw some creature in there. It's probably magical. Nothing else could survive in there."
Marco nodded, "A dragon maybe?" he hummed, "Possibly a griffon…." he sighed, "I just hope it's not a basilisk."
"All of those sound like bad news." Oci agreed, squinting at the scroll. "I wish they said what it was, instead of just telling us there is something there. Then we could prepare better." He sighed. "Yeah, let's not have a basilisk."
Marc hummed, "Does it say anything else useful?" he asked, leaning back and staring at the cieling.
"Hmm…" Oci inspected the scroll, looking for more stuff. "It says something about a way to get through the Everlasting Woods alive, I think. See that?" He pointed at a small note in the corner of the scroll. "Bring extra food. Ignis. The Golden Path. Oh, that makes sense."
"How in the world does that make sense?" asked Marco, "And what is Ignis?" he leaned forward to inspect the note, before leaning back again with a huff of annoyance.
"Well, I have in my possession an amulet inscribed with 'In semita auream', which means 'in the golden path'. I didn't know what it was, but I think it could help us get through the Everlasting Woods without getting lost and wandering in there until we die." Oci explained. "The extra food thing is probably because there's nothing edible in that forest. And Ignis is an Areanian spell for fire. I… don't know why we'll need it, but the rest helps a lot."
Marco huffed, nodding. "Sounds fair," he said softly, "So, when do we aim to leave?" he asked, hoping he could at least get a night's sleep in a proper bed, or on the couch, heck, even the floor would do.
"Oh, probably not until tomorrow," Oci said, rolling the scroll back up. "I'm afraid I only have one bed here, but you can take the couch if you want." He stood up and took a few steps towards a slightly crooked door. "If someone knocks on the door, don't answer it. And please don't try and leave here without me." Oci paused in front of the door and spun around. "There are some blankets over there if you need them. Sleep well." He opened the door and disappeared into the darkened room. The door closed with a crash, leaving Marco alone in the living room.
Marco hummed softly, watching as the other left. He thought it was pretty obvious not to open the door, or leave, but hey, maybe his new associate was an idiot. Either way, he was exhausted, so he quietly got up and grabbed all the blankets he could find, making himself a nest and curling up in it, covering himself with blankets and yawning.
Oci leaned against the door for a few moments before turning around and carefully locking the door. Yes, Marco had promised he wouldn't stab him in the back, but that's what everyone said to get something they wanted. He walked to the bed and kicked off his boots, then collapsed in the bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling. Oci wasn't completely in love with the idea of having a partner, but at the very least, Marco was someone he could throw at the creature to distract them while he got the staff.
(I like how neither one is inclined to like the other, and we plan to have them be romantic XD)
Marco was on the verge of drifting off into sleep, kept awake only by the thought of Oci, the other's controlling attitude, his powerful demeanour, his good looks.
(Yeah. I guess we'll have to see what happens!)
Oci turned onto his stomach and pulled his jacket off, throwing it onto the ground near the bed. Half asleep already, he wished Marco– or whatever his name was– was a little less handsome. It would make it easier to throw him to the wolves. Then again, he could turn into a wolf, so that wouldn't really do any good… Oci let out a breath and fell into unconsciousness.
Marco was already fast asleep, having been already exhausted from his day, and now relaxing in an unnatural comfort, the kind that came with actually sleeping inside.
(Time skip?)
(Till morning? Want me to start? Or do you want to?)
('Till morning, probably. I can start.)
Oci woke up annoyed before he remembered what he was doing. That good feeling lasted about two seconds before he remembered he wasn't alone on this journey. Marco. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed, then stood up and grabbed his jacket off the ground. A few steps to the door was all it took for him to wake up completely. Oci unlocked the door and opened it, wondering if Marco was even there still.
Marco was there. Buried in his blanket nest on the couch, looking small, precious, and overall adorable. Only his nose stuck out as he slept, the fact that he was there only punctuated by his soft snores.
Oci stopped in the doorway, a smile finding itself on his lips in spite of himself. He allowed himself a few more seconds of staring, then pushed the smile away and walked softly to the small bathroom. A couple of minutes later, he emerged, his face and hair damp from a quick washing.
Marco was still fast asleep, not about to wake up as long as he had his warm cocoon of blankets, especially since he was in the middle of the best sleep in ages.
Seeing that Marco was still asleep, Oci walked over to the couch and started pulling blankets away from him. Did he feel bad? Kind of, but they had stuff to do. People to kill. And Oci wanted to get going as soon as possible.
Marco whined softly, clinging to his blankets, not wanting to wake up just yet. Eventually he was dragged off of the couch, being quite light.
"Oh, gods, Marco!" Oci rolled his eyes and dropped the blankets. "Wake up already? Or would you rather I just leave here to kill the king without you?" He dropped to a crouch next to Marco and narrowed his eyes at him. "Come on, shifter. You have one minute."
Marco groaned softly, shifting into a cat and giving him the evil eye and stalking off to the bathroom. Shifting back he closed the door and did his thing, coming back out a moment later in a bad mood.
"Well, I'm glad you decided to get up," Oci said when Marco came out of the bathroom. He was sitting on the couch, pulling on his boots. "It would have been a real tragedy if I had to leave you behind." Oci straightened up, pushing a few damp curls back from his forehead. The seafoam-colored tips were already dry, which was good for him. That way, he wouldn't have to wait too long before getting out of the house for breakfast.
Marco hadn't bothered taking his worn hiking boots off, and was therefore ready to move. "You couldn't have bothered to let me sleep a moment longer?" he grouched, not up for dealing ith the other's attitude.
"Well, no. I didn't know what you needed to do after you woke up." Oci shrugged and stood up. "What would you like for breakfast?" He asked, smoothing down his coat. "A muffin?"
"Anything is fine as long as it's food" he said softly, "Depending on what it is you may or may not put me in a better mood, though the chances of that are unlikely."
Oci stared at Marco for a few seconds, then shook his head and walked towards the door. "Well, we're getting muffins and/or other pastries, because there's a bakery in the way and you didn't say no."
