“Good… Good, because I would be so ticked off if you did,” Amber murmured, breathing heavily when they parted. “I’m not letting you go, either.”

William breathed against her, hot breath fanning her mouth.

“I don’t have any reason to do that,” he pressed their mouths together again. “I’m good now. I can control myself. Everything is okay. There’s nothing between us anymore.”

“I’m so glad, Will. I’m so proud of you for that,” Amber said softly, opening her eyes to look into his. “Should— should we go to eat now?”

“It was because of you,” William murmured, caressing her cheek softly with his thumb. “I kept thinking of wanting you back, so that motivated me. And you wanted me, so I thought it was worth it. You are worth it.” He nuzzled her cheek, “Let’s go eat.”

Amber closed her eyes again, leaning into his soft touch. She loved this man, and she wanted to tell him that… But how could she do that? They’d been apart for four years. Could she say that already?

“Okay… But you have to get off of me, hun,” she reminded him with a small smirk. “If you want, I’m sure we could continue later.”

William smirked back, pleased to know that she hadn’t lost her spunk. He missed her smartass mouth.

“Oh, we will,” William all but promised. “I’ll take the four-years-worth kisses after dinner. Do look forward to it, my love.”

Amber chuckled softly, even as her cheeks tinted pink. “I will. In fact, I am right now. So let’s go eat so that we can get to that.”

William grinned. “Let’s go, then.”

Amber grinned back and took his hands, pulling him toward the parking lot. “Did you drive here?”

“I did,” William nodded, linking their fingers together. “Did you?”

“I actually walked today. I figured it was pretty nice out for September, so a walk would be good,” Amber said with a shrug.

“So that means you get to ride in my car,” William nuzzled her neck. “And I don’t have to be separated from you even for a few minutes.”

Amber hummed as he nuzzled her neck, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. “Very true. The more time we spend together, the better.”

“I agree,” William hummed, “So let’s go.”

Amber grinned and kissed his cheek before continuing to walk. “Still have the same car?” she wondered.

William tugged her along to the parking lot.

“No,” William answered. “I sort of crashed my old one, so I ended getting a new one.”

"You crashed it? What happened? Were you okay?" Amber questioned, stepping in front of him. She placed her hands flat against his chest to stop him, her eyebrows furrowed worriedly.

William looked down at her, his lips breaking out into a smile. That hand on his chest left a burn. He bent down to press their lips together.

“It wasn’t life threatening,” he assured her. “The brakes stopped working but no one got hurt. Trees can be useful in a lot of other ways.”

"You hit a tree? But you weren't hurt… Thank goodness," Amber breathed, releasing his shirt from where she'd gripped it in her fists. "Okay. Anything else shocking you'd like to tell me?"

William offered a grin, hands clasping hers. “I don’t remember right now,” he chuckled, “But I’ll let you know once I do.”

Amber chuckled softly, shaking her head before reaching up to peck his lips. "Okay, okay. Let's get going, then."

William parked in front of a nice restaurant before he stepped out of the car, waiting for Amber to join him. When she did, he linked their fingers together and pulled her close.

“I underestimated how hard it would be to not kiss you when you’re sitting in the passenger seat,” William admitted when they began walking inside. “I shouldn’t have done that.”

Amber smirked and looked up at him. “Would you have preferred me to lounge sexily in the back seat?” she teased, remembering the words from a few years ago.

William looked over her, raw emotion in his eyes. “Well, maybe I would have,” he murmured. “But you aren’t wearing anything of mine at the moment, so I’m not sure how you could have pulled off the sexiness.”

Amber snorted before letting her smirk melt into a soft smile. “I still have your jacket… It’s at my apartment,” she murmured.

William pulled her close to give her a small kiss. “Good,” he said. “I would have been upset otherwise.”

Amber chuckled and lightly kissed him again. “Well, I’m glad it makes you happy, then.”

“Let’s go now,” he squeezed her hands. “Then we can do… other things.”

Amber raised her eyebrows at him before chuckling again. “Yeah. Other things. All right, hun, let’s go eat.”

He missed it, that laugh. He missed everything about her, and William knew he would drink up everything she gave him until he was full.

Which he would never be.

So they were seated, had ordered their food, and now were waiting for it to arrive.

“My grandmother died,” he murmured, taking her hand in his. “Painlessly in her sleep a year ago.”
