As soon as the first mate stormed away she scrambled over to him, rag still in hand so she could help wipe some of the blood away. “I’m so sorry,” She whispered, looking him over for any visibly broken bones before starting to gently wipe the blood from his face. Helping him was probably not going to help her situation but she had to do something she figured, seeing she was going to be in cell as soon as the boards were clean.
I’m bored and want another one on one rp, fight me (open)
"I –I'm fine, of course," he said, attempting a laugh. His broken ribs quickly told him not to laugh for a while. "Don't worry about me, kay? I'm used to it."
“I’m gonna worry about you, and you’re not fine,” Was her reply as she finished wiping off his face and tried to see what else she could do to help, her eyes full of concern as she ignored the rest of the crew and focused on him, “Do you have any broken bones? Those will need to be set and kept in place if there are any.”
"Nope," he lied gibly, sitting up. It wasn't a bone that could be set, anyways. "I'm perfectly decent. Our adventure has reached a dismal point, hasn't it?"
Despite the situation, a tiny smile crossed her face, “I think it reached a dismal point this morning.” She looked him over once more before sighing and shaking her head, “Well, I better get back to scrubbing, the captain and first mate won’t be happy if I don’t. Plus, I don’t really want to get a beating anything like yours.”
For the first time a flicker of anger sprang to his pleasant features. "I wouldn't let them lay a hand on you." His eyes brightened again. "Here, do you have another rag? I can help."
She shook her head, “I don’t, and even if I did I don’t want you to get in trouble for helping me.” Andrea got back to scrubbing as she talked, knowing the deck would be finished even sooner if he helped, “Plus, the longer I take on this, the less time is spent in the brig.”
"Okay then," he said with a cheerful, somewhat pained smile. "Things are going to be just fine!"
Looking up at him for a moment, her eyes showed she didn’t believe him but she didn’t say anything and instead offered him a tiny smile. At least she knew Daso wouldn’t be beaten up while she was in the cell, at least not this badly.
The captain strolled over, peering down at the two of them with apathetic eyes. "Deck's good enough. Let's go, wench."
“Don’t call me that,” She muttered, standing up but keeping her eyes on the deck. Andrea tossed the rag into the bucket of water and glanced at him one last time before looking to the captain to see where he was going to lead her.
"You'll have fluffy pillows and silk sheets soon!" he promised as he watched her be lead away.
She waved to him as they walked below deck, silently asking him to not get into any more fights with anyone. The captain seemed to not have a care in the world as he opened the door to the quite filthy cell and pushed her inside. “Better hope your friend does a good job working.” He said as he locked the door behind her and left her in the dark silence.
(should we do a time skip? orrrr)
(Timeskip sound good with me :) )
A week of grueling labor flew by. It was difficult to clean and complete difficult tasks with his broken ribs, but it was manageable, and he'd done it before so he knew he could do it again. He'd scrubbed, mended, tied, organized, even cooked and sang for these pirates. Most of them seemed to begin to like him –they would twists their mouths with pity whenever the first mate shouted at him or hit him. He didn't really want their pity. He'd prefer to win over the first mate, if not his sympathy, then at least his respect. He'd been able to visit Andrea once, and to his delight the captain had stayed true to his word. Not to the extent he had hoped, but Daso had been allowed to clean the room, and then the captain supplied it with a hammock, blanket, and pillow. She was fed the same as the cabin boys, and given constant access to fresh water. Overall, her situation was a good bit better than his. Now they were only a few days out from the port, where hopefully their real adventure would begin.
The week took forever in Andrea’s eyes, with no entertainment or anyone to really talk to she was quickly bored out of her mind. She practically talked Daso’s ear off when he visited, though she didn’t talk about anything in particular. At least with the rest her soreness faded and she could get some good thinking in. When the hammock and blanket were put in she took nap after nap. The only thing she could really complain about was the lack of time to actually give herself a good rinse down from the grime. Sure she was able to wash her face, but she wanted so bad to scrub herself down with soap and change into less gross clothes. When the news that they were only a few days from port reached her ears she smiled happily, almost dancing around the cell in happiness.
The captain looked around the main deck. He could hardly believe it was a pirate ship –the kid had done an excellent job keeping it spotless and honestly…nice. He'd almost grown fond of the boy, even though he was a stowaway. He looked across at him. Daso was busy sweeping, singing one of the sea shanties he'd learned, a bright smile on his face, as though he were having the time of his life. With an expression similar to a smile, the captain approached him. "Lad."
"Yessir?" he chirped, still sweeping. "How can I help you?"
He shrugged, tucking his hands into his coat. "I was going to tell you that although your work is fantastic, I simply can't improve the brig anymore. It's gotten to be less of a brig and more of an inn."
His face fell at that. "B-but, you promised–"
"That being said," he interrupted, withdrawing his hand and pulling out a key. "I think it's high time your little friend was allowed to join you back up here. The first mate won't like it, but it's my ship, not his. Head on down there whenever you like."
Daso grinned, his eyes lighting up. "Really? Thank you so much! Wow, you're such a nice pirate. Can I go now?" At the captain's brief nod, he grabbed the key and hurried across the deck, dashing down the stairs and into the brig. "Andrea!"
Andrea was busy doing absolutely nothing besides swinging in the hammock when she heard Daso. Her eyes lit up and she sat up straight, almost tipping out of the hammock with a bright smile, “Daso!” She swung her legs out and stood up, walking to the bars and looking at him, “What’s going on? I have so many theories about the first mate that you have to hear, did you make the captain not hate you as much?”
"Of course he adores me now," he laughed. "You underestimate my charm. Guess what I have!"
“Something good to eat?” She guessed, bouncing on her toes, “News that we reached port and I can get out of here? Something to keep me not bored in here?” Just seeing someone that would actually talk to her made her happy and it was quite obvious, being in the brig without company sucked.
"Even better," he said, holding up the key and jingling it. "You're a free woman now. The captain's decided to stand up to the first mate!" He stuck the key into the lock and turned it.
She gasped happily and her smile grew even more, “Yes!” Andrea practically danced as she opened the door and stepped out of the cell, wrapping Daso in a hug before he could object or stop her.
He was surprised by the hug at first, but moments after he realized how touch starved he was. He returned the hug gladly, spinning her around a little and laughing. "Welcome back to freedom and adventure!"
She laughed as well, hugging him tight for one last moment before stepping away, “Thank you for helping me get back to freedom.” She looked back at the brig and stepped inside it quick, folding up the blanket and setting it on the hammock before going back out. “Now, I think I have some theories about the first mate, well though over ones too. Care to hear them?”
He grinned, nodding enthusiastically. "Of course I do! That guy gives me the creeps." He didn't want to mention just how many times he'd caught the guy staring at him, or how many times he'd been randomly punched or smacked by the man.
“So, I’m thinkin’ he has a tragic backstory,” She started with bright eyes, slowly starting to walk towards the steps to the main deck as she spilled out every thought that had crossed her mind about the theories. It was the most she had talked the whole week and her whole demeanor changed when she finally was able to get out of the cell.
He nodded, encouraging her to keep talking. She looked so excited that it made him excited, too. "I think you're right!"
After a few moments of non stop jabbering, she felt like she was being annoying so she calmed down slightly, still spilling out ideas as she got a chance to stretch her legs, “Something with someone important to him getting killed or something and the captain took him in because he pitied him.”
"I can definitely believe that," Daso said with a nod, strolling beside her and watching the sun dance off her hair. "Cap's got a soft spot for sure. Otherwise you and I wouldn't be walking around like this –or at all, really."
