Sterling watched with guarded curiosity as the nurse helped Cassandra. How had the girl managed to get a gunshot wound? Well… Okay, obviously from being shot… But how had she been shot?

Laura sighed as she stitched her up. "There. Now don't tear them again." "No promises." "Cass…" Laura warned. "Okay, okay, sorry. Jeez, I'll try." "Good. Now hand it over." "Hand what over?" "Don't play dumb, you know what." "Ughhhh, you're no fun." Cassie groaned and pulled a pistol out from the waistband of her jeans, placing it in Laura's hand. She weighed it carefully and sighed. "Fully loaded too??" "A girl like me has enemies in strange places."
Sterling quirked an eyebrow at the sight of the pistol. She was carrying around a gun at a school event? That could get her into trouble…
Laura sighed and facepalmed but did nothing else. "You're free to go. I've done all I can." "Thanks Lars." "Whatever." Cassie sat up slowly as to not tear her new stitches and started for the door.
Sterling stood up as well and walked beside her. “So… Any chance I could convince you to tell me how you got a gunshot wound?”
"Uh…by getting shot?" She chuckled.
“Well, obviously,” Sterling chuckled, rolling his eyes. “How did you get shot?”
"Now that I can't tell you. That's between me and my client."
“Client?” Sterling asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
She sighed. Time for the reveal that would have him running like everyone else. "I'm a private assassin. People hire me to kill."
“Really? That’s… Wow…” Sterling said, looking surprised.
"Yep. It's deadly but hey, it pays the bills. I also have a part time job as a library assistant."
“Huh… How long have you been doing this?” Sterling asked.
"About 3 years. It's kind of exhilarating."
Now Sterling really looked surprised. “You’ve been doing this since you were fifteen?”
"Mhmm. Ever since I was old enough to know how to become unfeeling to human suffering."
“All right, then,” Sterling hummed. “I suppose that might be helpful…”
"I'm not a complete robot though. I do have feelings."
“I believe you,” Sterling assured her with a grin.
She smiled a little. "Good to know someone finally does."
“Well, it’s definitely out there,” Sterling chuckled. “But, yeah. I believe you.”
"You can not believe me all you want but it's true."
“Like I said, I believe you. Don’t worry,” Sterling assured her.
"Now we should really get back. Me being out in such an open space without a lot of people is almost a surefire way to get me killed."
Sterling grinned slightly and nodded. “Sure. Let’s go. They’ll be starting soon, anyway.”
She smiled a little. He's a lot nicer than most guys this cute…
(His Mama raised ‘im right. Lol. ;D)
“Shall we?” Sterling said, offering her his arm with a wink.
She rolled her eyes with a smile and took his arm. "Let's go Romeo."
“I think I’m more of a knight in shining armor. Like, shining, sterling silver armor,” Sterling laughed lightly.
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say." She giggled.
