Jay hummed softly, tilting his head at the room with a soft sigh. “Well, good news is both rooms have the same amount of seats really, but yours has that comfortable chair. Would you like to host tonight’s movie and next time I’ll host you?”

"Sounds like a plan!" Eugene chirped, turning around from the counter with a bowl full of cookies. He set the bowl down and went over to the fridge to grab an assortment of cupcakes. "Should I just get some of every flavor?" He asked tilting his head out of the fridge to look at Jay.

group

“Of course, I want to try them all.” He said with a grin, tilting his head at Eugene and laughing gently. “I’m honestly in awe at how pretty your cupcakes are.”

Eugene smiled and took out three containers of cupcakes, a different flavor in each. He set the containers on the counter and sorted a few of each flavor into one container. "Thank you! I take a lot of pride in my decorating." He then grabbed the cookies and the cupcakes. "Well, our snacks are ready."

group

“It looks good.” He smiled, gesturing for Eugene to go first. “After you, I’ll get the movie ready.” He hummed happily as he pulled his phone from his pocket to check the time, noting it before walking back into Eugene’s room and looking around once more. It was a nice change from his own room.

In his room, Eugene set down the container and bowl of desserts on his desk. He glanced around to make sure everything was in order, his eyes conveniently skipping over his backpack. "What do you wanna sit on? Since you're the guest of course." He asked, a quiet giggle escaping his lips.

group

“I can take the chair, it’s your bed after all, unless you’re looking to share it.” He teased, plopping down in the chair with a happy sigh. “I’m kidding, but you take your bed, it’s yours after all,”

"I don't know, maybe I do want to share it." Eugene teased back. But he agreed and fell back on his bed, turning on his side to look at Jay. His eyes caught sight of the deserts. "Agh. Could you grab those since you're closer?"

group

Jay looked to the treats then back to Eugene, something mischievous lighting up in his eyes. “Oh, sure~” he chirped, leaning to grab them. He set them in his lap and snickered. “More for me, as it seems you’re stuck on the bed.”

"You know, you're not nearly as far away from me as the desk was. I can still reach you." Eugene smiled and did just that, reaching into the cookie bowl, grabbing three while he was at it. "You know what, we need to get a huge bean bag or chair, then we wouldn't have to worry about a lack of seating."

group

Jay gasped dramatically but laughed softly and took a few cookies for himself, searching for the movie. “I love beanbags. Especially the ones you just sink into, they’re amazing, soooo comfy.” He leaned back in the chair and looked up at Eugene, smiling.
“I vote beanbag, but a chair wouldn’t be too bad.”

"I vote bean bag as well. The only reason I have that chair is because my sister didn't want it anymore and I was desperate for something." Eugene explained, biting into one of the cookies. He watched as Jay looked for the movie. "I say we both pitch in and actually get a giant bean bag, what do you say?"

group

“Is she your only sibling or do you have others?” Jay asked curiously, pausing to look over at the other. “I agree with that, it would be fun. It’ll be like our movie and hang out beanbag. We can both use it especially if it’s giant.” He laughed gently and returned to the selections, beaming as he found the movie he wanted.
“Are you ready?”

"Yeah, only me and my sister when it comes to the kids of the family." Eugene smiled, catching Jay's gaze. He gave the other a playful wink and turned his attention to the screen. "I was born ready, especially for a movie." He giggled, once he stopped a smile was still on his lips.

group

“I have a half brother but I don’t know him very well ‘cause he lives with my step-dad’s ex-wife, I did have an older sister but she was killed by a drunk driver five years ago. So now It’s just me. Kinda forget I have siblings sometimes.” He laughed, rubbing at the back of his neck nervously.
The wink made his heart flutter, but Jay kept his cool, smiling as he pressed play. “Good, I’m jumping right in then.”

"Wait, wait, wait." Eugene protested, he felt bad hearing that bit of very personal seeming information, just to forget about it and watch a Disney movie. "Don't start it yet. I'm so sorry that happened" He said quieter. Instead of keeping a sad face, he offered a soft smile. Although, it was short-lived as he distracted himself by taking a bite of one of his cookies.

Jay leaned back in his seat and shrugged. He stared at something seemingly interesting on the ground, sighing softly. “I’ve kind of dissociated from it. It hurts but I can’t do anything about it.” He replied, a little too casually. Truth was, he had buried the trauma related to that whole situation. He didn’t want to open it back up. It would still be fresh.
“It’s in the past, I worked harder for her, got into college.”

Eugene nodded to himself, finishing one of his cookies. "Sorry…" He said softly, referring to the fact that he dug into the subject more than he should have. He suddenly felt very awkward and like he should shrink away to hide under his bed.

group

“Oh no, it’s alright, don’t worry about it, Eugene. I’ll tell you more about it when I’m ready to… we’ll, to revisit that.” He offered a caring smile, reaching over to gently pat Eugene’s arm in a comforting manner.
“I’m just glad I made it up to this point. I’m happy with what I’m doing and I’m sure she is too.”

Eugene smiled softly. He felt a buzz at Jay's touch, subconsciously wishing he would keep his arm there. "Well, I'm glad you're here as well." He paused, debating whether it was okay to crack a joke or not. After a few seconds, he decided it would be a good idea to lighten the mood. "I'd have Charles as my roommate, and we all know how difficult he is as a roomie."

group

Jay cracked a wide grin, unable to hide how happy that phrase coming from Eugene’s mouth made him. The joke made him groan dramatically.
“Oh god! Charles was a good guy, nice kid, but good hell was he so hard to live with!!!”

Eugene let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. "Yeah, what a character, Charles." His small smile grew, mimicking Jay's. The sour mood from just a second ago seemed to dissipate, except for Jay's hand still on Eugene's arm. That of which he was painfully aware of, even though it wasn't painful in the slightest.

group

In truth, Jay liked how warm Eugene was and really didn’t want to remove his hand. He would stall it for as long as possible or at least until it became too awkward to bare.
“I much prefer you as a roommate. Sorry to Charles, but he wasn’t as good at baking nor was he as attractive as you~” he winked, slowly taking his hand back almost as if asking Eugene if it was okay to do so.

Eugene's mind moved slower than his body did. His hand reached out to Jay's and took it. He had taken ahold of Jay's hand and laced their fingers for a few seconds before his mind registered what he had done. His eyes went wide and, for the first time that day, he flushed. Even then, he didn't remove his hand from Jay's.

group

Jay’s mouth hung open like he was some fish out of the water, eyes staring at their laced hands. He flushed a bright red and turned his head away sheepishly, hoping to hide his fluster.
Eugene’s hand fit so well with Jay’s. It drew a soft giggle from him each time he looked back up at their hands. He had to admire how smooth and pretty Eugene’s skin was, especially the skin of his hands. Jay found his thumb rubbing subconsciously against the back of Eugene’s hand.
“Y-you have soft skin… your hands are soft.”

Eugene was frozen. His blush deepened into a darker red. Too many butterflies flew around in his stomach. If it wasn't clear, he was the opposite of cool when it comes to real affection. He was game for flirting and teasing, but anything he deemed 'real' was the bane of his existence. Still silent, he ended up looking down and to the side, but there was no attempt to remove his hand from Jay's. As much as he was nervous and awkward, he honestly loved the feel of their hands together.

group

Jay slid the chair a little closer, his hand tightening around Eugene’s slightly. In an attempt to break the silence he glanced up at the other and offered a shy smile.
“W-want to start the movie now?” He flashed his best grin, hoping to ease the tension.

Eugene turned to look at Jay once again. His face had cooled a little while looking away, but there was no hope to hide the flushing, as it had appeared again at the sight of Jay. "Uh, yeah… let's do that." He managed to say. His hand tightened a little as well, almost as if he would lose the feeling of Jay's hand in his if he held too much looser.

group

Jay laughed softly to himself, pressing play for the movie. He didn’t really pay attention to it, however, as his eyes drifted to their hands.
This kind of affection sent his heart racing for some unknown reason. He really liked it, though, it made him giddy and almost like he was floating.

Eugene was also not paying attention to the movie, although he did try to. One of the great things coming from starting the movie was that he could think about it all, without feeling pressured to say or do anything. His fluster had gone down, subsiding to a small blush. He felt almost like the butterflies still fluttering in his stomach.
