Trouble in Paradise [Private RP — Closed]

Lucas’s throat dried up immediately the second she cracked open the middle one. A ring fell out just as she did so, along with a stripe of paper. It was a sapphire ring, a vintage platinum mounting. Lucas had specifically selected that gem because it was her birthstone.

Lucas stood up and went down on one knee, looking up at Ashley, straight into her eyes.

“Ash… we’ve been together since diaper days, and there’s no other girl I’ve loved other than you,” he started, his voice wavering slightly, breaking off a little as nervousness took over. “I remember falling for you when we were five, when you found me sulking because I’d been hit by a ball on the face, and you kissed the spot and told me it was going to be all right, that it wouldn’t hurt anymore. It didn’t, because that kiss numbed everything else.

“I remember that feeling turning into love when we reached freshman year in high school, the day hung out for the first time with Eden because she’d been on a date, and you teasingly fed me a spoonful of cake. You didn’t even realize what that action did to me, but you should know I spent the entire night tossing and turning, wishing I’d be able to have you.

“Ashley… I’ve thought over this for a long time, and I know if I don’t ask, I’m going to regret it. You make me happy in ways you won’t ever understand. You give me confidence. You pick me up when I fall down and there’s no one who can do it like you do. You’re the source of my happiness and God forbid I ever lose you. There’s no one on this planet I desire more than you, to have you in my arms not as my girlfriend, but as my wife; to wake up together with you as we start our new lives together; to raise kids with you, to start a family.” Lucas paused, trying to find words to say but realized he didn’t have anything else to talk about anymore. His eyes were blurry from tears and he was nervous as it is, but his voice was confident. He looked down, took a deep breath, and then looked back at Ashley straight in the eyes.

“Ashley Faith Carter, will you marry me?”

Lucas immediately pulled her into his arms, spinning her around, relief coursing through him.

She’d said yes. She agreed to marry him. Lucas couldn’t have been happier at that moment.

He heard cheers and clap, but at this moment all he could see was his girlfriend’s glossy eyes and the look on her face. He reached for the ring on the plate, took her hand gently in his, and slipped the ring on her ring finger before kissing the back of her hand gently.

“I love you,” he whispered. “I love you so much, Ash…”

(Holy crap I’m sobbing)

Lucas hugged her back just as tightly, burying his face in the crook of her neck

“Ashley McArthur…” He murmured, loving the way her name felt. “I’ll make you happy. I promise.”

Lucas kissed her back, trying to fight off the grin.

“I’ll make sure you remain happy, then,” he murmured against her lips before he pulled away.

Finally, he looked at the staff who were grinning at him.

“Thanks, guys,” he said, waving at them. “It wouldn’t have worked without your help!”

The manager shook the newly engaged couple’s hand and congratulated them before Lucas paid for their meal and they began walking away.

“I’d been planning this for quite some time,” Lucas admitted. “But I wanted to be sure, y’know? I had the staff help me. A lot. If you hadn’t noticed, I reserved the whole thing and those couples inside were just people pretending so you wouldn’t, you know, figure it out. I guess two weeks to get the whole thing together?”

Lucas pulled her towards him, pressing his lips on her forehead.

“I wanted this to be as special as possible,” he said to her softly. “I wanted this day to be special for you just as much as it is for me.”

“I’m glad, because I had them make videos and pictures, too,” Lucas said, grinning. “And I was thinking after the baby is born. I’m sure you’d want that, too, right?”

Lucas nodded.

“I promise you, I won’t let you regret saying yes,” he told her seriously. “I’ll keep you happy for the rest of our life. I’ll keep our family happy.”

Lucas cupped her cheeks softly, smiling down at her.

“I know,” he said. “And I’m grateful for that, but I’ll still make sure you get less than half of the responsibilities. I know you can handle yourself, but I still want you to live comfortably without anything weighing you down.”

Lucas sighed.

“Okay,” he finally agreed. “But then you’ll have to take care of yourself. People… people talk, especially the families related to the McArthurs. Grandfather wouldn’t allow it, but people still talk. Even if you’re a Carter, they’ll still grab any chance to bring you down and you have to promise me you won’t let any of their words get to you.”

Lucas responded by gently placing their lips together.

“I love you, Ashley Faith Carter,” he murmured. “Thank you for being by my side.”

“Do you want to go home?” He asked once they pulled apart. “Or do you want to go on a drive?”

Lucas looked at her dramatically, widening his eyes.

“You’re serious?” He placed a hand on her forehead. “Holy, now that I think about it, you’ve been feeling warm all this time! Do you have a fever, love?”

Lucas laughed at her, pulling her in his arms again, moving side to side slowly.

“If you say so, but then we’ll have to go home to get your Jeep,” I said to her. “We can count that as half a trip.”

A smile took over Lucas’s face and his eyes brightened. He kissed her again.

“All right then, fiancé,” he bumped their noses together.
