"We already have our first soldier," Anto added, trying his best to repress the noble nature of his voice. "He suggested us to you."

"Hm, was it that one with the parchment?" the woman inquired, tilting her head. She was weighing the pros and cons of joining this crew, and so far, she couldn't think of anything that would be enough to say no. She had no job, save for theft, and joining some pirates in a specialized group sounded like fun.

"Yes, in fact, it was." He gestured to the door with his left hand. "He's waiting outside for us."

"Alright, I'll join this crew of yours," she said, reaching out to Fane. They clasped hands. "The name's Johnnie."

"Fane." They shook, then the smaller woman turned to Anto to do the same, brow raised in question.

"Anto," he said, shaking her hand. "Nice to have you aboard."

"I look forward to seeing who else you dig up from the trenches," Johnnie said with a chuckle. "I have a few errands to run before hopping aboard, so I'll see you then." With that, she strode off, almost immediately getting swallowed up by the crowded bar.

"This is going much easier than I expected," he said, watching the woman go with a pleased smile. "Now we just need the big guy."

"That one should be the easiest to find and hardest to convince," Fane said, also watching the woman go. "Any thoughts on where we could find someone like that?"

"One of the dock hands?" he asked, scratching the top of his head. I need a haircut, floated through his mind before he got back on track. "Those guys are typically pretty big."

She thought about it, then shook her head. "True, but I wouldn't see a soldier working as a dockhand," she said, then reached up and played with a strand of her hair while glancing around the bar. "And we should discuss this somewhere else."

"Why is that?" he asked, raising an eyebrow over at her. "I do not see the issue."

She sighed and grabbed the back of his shirt, dragging him out of the bar while hissing, "Drunks don't typically care for strangers coming in and discussing recruitment in front of them and not asking them anything. Especially men. Bonus if their ego is so inflated their heads are about to burst."

"Hm," he said, allowing himself to be dragged out while he thought on what she said. "I suppose that is true."
White was waiting for them outside, raising his eyebrow at the sight of her dragging Anto around.
"Any particular reason why ye don' let that man walk on his own?" he asked.

group
@ElderGod-kirky group

"Because he's a hazard to the public," Fane said, letting go of Anto. "You're free to go to the ship," she told White, hooking a thumb in the direction of the docks. "Just look for the ship name and ask for the captain."

He gave her a casual salute, walking off towards the dock while he whistled a simple tune. "Are you going to allow me to be part of this 'special crew' too?" Anto asked Fane as he waved goodbye to White.

"It's been considered," she admitted, looking over at him with a tilted head. "Still considering. Once you're healed I might take it up with the captain, depending on how I feel about it then."

"Is my current health the only reason why you are not making the decision at this moment, or is there something more?" he asked, studying the people walking past as he spoke.

She took a moment to consider that question. "I'm still hung up on the fact that everyone thinks I'm babying you. If I were to choose you, a newbie, and not one of them, senior members, to be in this crew, then that would only solidify that opinion."

"What if the captain told them so?" he asked, then noticed a man a full head and shoulders above the crowd. His eyes shone with an idea as he saw a pair of broken cuffs hanging from the giant's wrists. Perfect.

"Cap can't change their opinions," she argued, then turned to look at what had caught Anto's attention. She flicked her brows up as she saw the giant, impressed. "Damn."

"I do not think you would want to leave the best fighter in your crew out of this," he said, then walked towards the man. Anto, short as he was, barely reached the man's shoulders.
"Hello, friend," the prince greeted, sliding beside the man and matching his stride. "Mind I ask what you are doing in a town like this."
The giant looked down at Anto and squinted, as if he was having a hard time making him out. "Mind ya business, boy."
"Are you in search of a job?" the prince asked, cutting right to the chase just as Fane had.
It made the man stop in mid-stride. "Depends. How much money you talkin' 'bout?"
"Depends on how many ships we plunder," Anto said with a shrug. "Pirate's work is hard to price."
"If ya can get these chains off'a me in the next 15 minutes," the man said, "I'll join ya crew."
Anto turned to Fane. "Mind getting the bolt cutter's from the ship?" he called over to her.

Fane gagued the distance between the ship and the two men, then shrugged and broke into a sprint. Damn, it's been a while since she could freely run. Even if she could get the bolt cutters without running, getting the chains off of the man would be time-consuming work, and she just had to have this giant on their team.

She jogged up onto the deck and headed down to the storage room, grabbing the bolt cutters and coming back to Anto and the giant. The entire trip took a little over 5 minutes.

"Hold your arm out, please," Anto said, taking the bolt-cutters and picking the place where the metal was the thinnest.
"You cut me with those," the man said, "And I'll break ya skull."
The prince hesitated, then stepped back and handed the cutters back to Fane. "Maybe you should take this one, too."

"Yes, have the lady do the hard work and possibly get killed," she grumbled, taking the bolt cutters and stepping up to the man. She tilted her head and fell into focus, lining up the cutters with the metal cuffs and finding where there was a less chance of getting her skull crushed.

"Ya got about 5 minutes," the man said, tapping his foot impatiently. "I really want these off."

group

"I have ten, actually," Fane said calmly, then forced the boltcutters closed. The metal groaned, then snapped, freeing the man's one wrist. "And now I have 9."

"My maths ain't never been good," the man admitted, twisting his free hand around with a relieved sigh.

"Not to worry, this'll only take another minute or two," she muttered, moving off to the side to the other arm. She gestured for him to raise it.

He did so as Anto watched. "So you truly believe the way your crew views you would diminish if you allowed me into the fighting crew?" he asked

She sighed, head falling back slightly, then bent her head over the chains and raised the bolt cutters to the metal. "Are we back on this again?"
