The doctor nodded, and left.
Okay. In the morning…
Jair was asleep, laying on his back with his hands clasped over the wound.
RP? One on One
Kana woke up in a cold sweat and breathing heavily. She had a nightmare about a certain someone (heheheh) dying from a stab wound. She looked over at Jair and sighed deeply in relief.
Jair opened his eyes slowly, rubbing a hand across his face with a soft groan.
Kana got up, ignoring the pain shooting through her. That's right, that assassin nearly beat me to death. Kneeling down beside Jair, she questioned him using a gentle voice, "Are you feeling any better?"
"I feel like a dragon stomped on me." He grumbled, not getting up. He looked up at her. "I also failed my job, so you should probably just fire me." He added.
She shook her head. "I'm not going to do that." Sitting down next to him, she continued, "If you weren't there, I would've been dead. You took the blow for me."
Jair sighed softly, and reached up, brushing some of her hair back, then putting a finger against the bandage on her neck. "This, should never have happened." He said softly. "You should never have been in a situation where this could happen."
"It was out of our control, Jair." She sighed and stretched, wincing when she did. "I don't plan on firing you, and you can't change my mind."
Jair dropped his hand. "I…fine. If you say so." He said softly. His dark hair was in his face a bit.
She gently brushed his hair out of his face and smiled reassuringly at him. "So, do you think you can stand? Or would you like to wait here until you think it's safe?"
He shrugged. "I would…prefer not to stand yet, but i can if you want me to."
She rested her back on the wall and closed her eyes. "Then we'll wait,"
Jair hauled himself up to a sitting position.
"Hey, Jair?"
"Yeah?" He asked, looking over at her curiously.
"Do you ever regret becoming my guard?"
He took a breath. "I…" He thought for a moment. "No." He replied, looking at her. "Why? Do you regret hiring me?"
Kana smile, as though she was remembering a fond memory. "No, I don't regret hiring you." She was silent for a moment before adding in a quieter voice (but still audible), "It was probably one of the best decisions I've made in my entire life."
He raised an eyebrow slightly. "What do you mean?" He asked, looking over at her. He tucked his hair back behind his ears so that it wasn't in his face.
She chuckled. "I'm honored to have you by my side, is all. And over the years, you've become…" she paused, trying to think of a proper term. "You've become dear to me."
What does she mean…? He wondered. He had long wondered if the feelings he held for Kana were only strictly friendship, or if those feelings were becoming something more…he looked at her. "I…thank you. You've become dear to me as well." He replied.
She opened her eyes and looked over at Jair, beaming at him. "I'm happy to know you feel the same way,"
This was a skill she often used. She was developing feelings for Jair, but she wanted to know how he felt. Whenever she used this trick, usually the other person would either react strangely, or they would ask about what she meant by the same way. But she had no idea how Jair would react. Maybe he's aware of this trick that I use. I do use it quite frequently.
Jair tipped his head slightly. Trick. What is she trying to get me to say? He wondered. Best to say nothing? Agree? Agree sounds best. "Yes." He replied simply, giving her a small smile. He wondered if that was the answer she had wanted or not. He didn't know. He leaned his head against the wall, curling an arm across his wound. It was starting to hurt again.
Kana noticed his movements. Completely forgetting about the other situation, she became concerned for him. "Should I get the doctor? She could give you the pain medicine."
"I'm…fine for now." Jair replied, eyes darting to her. "Are you doing okay?" He asked. He took a deep breath.
She thought about it for a moment. I suppose there's no harm telling him the truth. "Yeah. I'm still super lightheaded, but what can you do?" She massaged her right shoulder and groaned, "and a bit sore. But that's okay."
He nodded. "Water can help with the lightheadedness." He told her, shifting slightly. Damn it. I want a shower. He thought. And food. And sleep. And no hole in my torso. Just the basics, right?
She slightly frowned. "Are you sure you don't want me to go get the doctor?"
He sighed softly. "I…I'm not sure." He replied quietly.
Kana got up, wincing when she did. "I'll get her to check up on us," she looked down at Jair and smiled, "just in case." She walked out of the room with a small limp.
