He father, who she considers to be weak and cowardly, left her and her brother shortly after her mother died from an illness. He took their youngest sibling (Finn) and left to live in Rula, the largest kingdom in Kralia, with her (non-blood-related) uncle, who so happened to be the king of Rula. He had done a lot of emotional damage to her, her brother, and the majority of their extended family by casting their concern and love away when they tried to help him through the loss of his wife. And so, due to his mistakes, she is motivated to continue on, because she refuses to make the same ones as him.

she can be irritable and insensitive. She doesn't always get enough sleep due to her travels and this makes her irritable at times, and she (since she had to develop a thick skin earlier in life) doesn't think of her insensitiveness as what it is, just that people are too insecure.

ungrateful people. People who have what she always wanted to keep- A healthy family, two present parents, a healthy dynamic, etc. and then they aren't grateful for what they have, she hates them almost instantly for that moment/foreseeable future.

For some amount of time, she worked as an outlaw/assassin for a dangerous man who went by the alias of "Spectre", but she left after eight years roughly of working that job and cleared her name.

she set out to train and join forces with Spectre at the age of 13, four years after her mother passed away, three years after her father left her behind and she thought her cousin dead.
Eli's childhood was relatively normal up until she was nine. She had both parents, an older brother named Amnelis, and a younger brother named Finn. At age nine, however, her mother caught the deadly Mornegerid disease which in turn took her life, leaving her father Cal as their only parent and role model. Cal didn't set the best example. He first fell into drinking habits and either left them alone all night or came home in a horrible state that they shouldn't have had to see. Once his brother in law Shintani and his sister Imada spoke to him about it, he agreed to get some help and resorted to taking a short trip to Rula, where his best friend, King Erden, would help with his healing process. He left the three children in the care of Kellan and Alana and Shintani and Imada, and spent three weeks away from home. He arrived back to Meer Mensen completely sober, but unhappy to be back where he had memories of his lost love. After staying for about a week, without saying a word, he took the youngest son Finn with him to Rula for an undisclosed amount of time. Unsure how long he would be gone, Eli and Amnelis remained home alone with Shintani and Imada checking in on them each night, but his trips grew increasingly longer each time he left - and he never offered to bring the other two with him. Eventually, he only came home once a month or less. When Eli was ten, her cousin and best friend Shirai was chased from Meer Mensen, and she felt as though she had lost everything that mattered. Shintani and Imada took her and her brother under their roof and became very protective of them, determined not to let anyone else hurt the children of the city. However, at age 13, Eli had an intense attack of panic, anxiety, and emotional overstimulation, and she fled from Meer Mensen briefly to explore the woods and find a quiet location to unwind. It was there that she would run into Kellan, who was not only wanted and on the run, but was the very man who (she thought) killed her cousin. She tried to attack him, but as she was punching and kicking him, someone grabbed her from behind and held her back. She fell to her knees sobbing and, after a few minutes of collecting herself, she discovered the man holding her back went by the alias "Spectre". He told her that he liked her spirit, and that he could use someone like her. When she asked what he was trying to accomplish, he explained in simple terms that he wanted equality and better leadership in Kralia - and specifically to eliminate the corruptness of the king of Eda. She liked that idea - especially since she felt so powerless in her current life. Kellan escorted her back home as far as he safely could, all the while explaining discreetly how the incident with Shirai was out of his control. She returned home. Once she returned, She received an intense scolding from Shintani, who thought she had been taken or that she was hurt thanks to her lengthy absence. She argued back for the sake of her independence, and they walked away from the fight on bad terms. The next morning, she woke early and approached him off guard with Imada observing and told him that she wasn't Shirai, and that she wasn't going to disappear, but that she required freedom and independence just like she and Shirai had before all of the chaos. The two argue for a moment against her explanation, but finally they come to terms with a curfew for her to follow and Shintani tells her that he is going to train her in self defense. And so, Eli begins to meet with Kellan and Spectre and even Haeta and Scilla (once in a while) nearly every day to train and learn their ways - and thanks to their warping abilities, she almost always met her curfew, no matter how far away any specific "quest" took her from Meer Mensen - but eventually, once she was 15-16, she began to gain permission to stay overnight in other towns and cities because Shintani and Imada had seen her defensive capabilities and her wisdom and decided that she was mature enough to be able to travel - so long as she returned eventually and kept them updated with letters. When she was 15, she fell in love with the silver-tongued Haeta, who taught her many tricks with simple dark magic that appeared to be harmless. The two understood each other because they both felt abandoned by their parents - and because they held an anger towards the world, however, Eli didn't know the extent of Haeta's anger nor what he would do with it. The two kissed and began a relationship during their time spent in Eda during the "drifters" time period. When she had just turned 18, Eli noticed ruthless and evil behavior from Haeta. He was not only cold to everyone around him, but manipulative and pushy towards her. He tried to push her relationship boundaries multiple times, and finally, she linked his changed behavior to his extensive use of Imzadek Indlan - but when she explained her concerns to him, he refused to change and lashed out at her, and even squeezed her throat. She broke free and for a moment, he realized what he had done and appeared to feel guilty, but she ended her relationship with him and explained to Spectre that she couldn't/wouldn't do any more tasks alongside him. Not long after that, she ran into Kesshoku in the woods, which is where she falls into the plot of the first book.
