Overview
Domainism
The central religion of The Vale of Seasons
History
Domainism has been around since the Vale was created. The first recorded record of organized worship of the gods dated back to the pre-banishment era. The first use of the term Domainism didn't occur until 300 PB (post-banishment).
Beliefs
Domainism holds high the values of balance and equality. It teaches about unity and the strength we have in each other.
One prophecy remains from the time of the gods. After the gods were banished from the Vale by Hex's chaos magic, they left behind four artifacts: The Cloak of Wind, The Circlet of Ice, The Bracers of Fire, and The Pendant of Flowers. The prophecy states that one day, when the time comes to vanquish Hex once and for all, that four heroes from each domain will claim the relics and with their combined power destroy Hex and his chaos once and for all.
Most worship is done privately at home alters or during celebrations. Despite that, buildings dedicated to worship do exist. There are five of these churches in total, one in each of the four Domain capitals and one at the meeting point of the four Domains. Each one is dedicated to that Domain's patron with the one in the center being dedicated to Fae themself.
Private worship often includes leaving small offerings and prayer. Festivals and celebrations in honor of the gods are much bigger affairs, promoting the excitement of the general public. These often include games, feasts, music, dancing, storytelling, and more.
Those who strictly adhere to Domainism's doctrine are bound to the ideals of balance, justice, and equal treatment of all people.
Followers believe that when one dies their spirit joins the gods in Sunrise, but since the banishment of the gods, the door to Sunrise was destroyed (the remains of the door reside in the Court of Fae at the center of the Vale). Until the door is reopened, the spirits of the dead are cursed to dwell in the strange, chaotic, liminal space between death and life.
Traditions
The Feast of the Sun, the Festival of Lights, the Great Boar Hunt, and harvest time are all considered holidays. For more information on each, check the deity pages linked above.
Scholars and researches are initiated with a ceremony dedicated to Spring's patron, Ronan. The completion important structures is marked with the ceremonial opening of windows, which many believes allows Fae's essence to banish bad energy. Most homes in the Vale display a balance scale above their hearth as another call back to Fae. Homes in the Fall Domain burn the symbol of a lamb, Tohah's sacred animal, as a symbol of safety or a healer.
