"You're fine," Tohru chuckled, "I'm constantly making a fool of myself and you don't seem to make much of it. This is nothing."

"You're fine," Tohru chuckled, "I'm constantly making a fool of myself and you don't seem to make much of it. This is nothing."
He nodded a little, laughing faintly. "Yeah, alright." He replied, shooting Tohru a quick, faint little smile.

Tohru bit his lip in frustration as some of the chicken stuck to the bottom of the pan. He had been oddly distracted talking to Davin. He always kind of was. He was drawn in by that smile. But he couldn't really mean it, right? Tohru was kind of an idiot at best, and a lying, bastard of a bounty hunter at worst. Maybe a bit of both. Point is, there was no way he could see Tohru in a good light. Davin was probably making it all up, hoping that Tohru would have mercy and not turn him in, or at least would continue to treat him alright.
Tohru had no idea how to convey that he was genuine in not wanting to turn the Kaythani in.
Davin was probably a little too trusting, considering what he was and how long he had been on the run, since he had pretty much taken Tohru at face value, trusting that the bounty hunter had meant what he said about not turning him in.

Tohru finished cooking and seasoning what he had, then did a final check of the vegetables in the other pan before turning the stove off.
"Alright, well that's done," he said.
Davin nodded a little. "What would you like me to do?" he asked, raising his eyebrows over at Tohru, curious.
group
"It's done. Could you grab some plates? You can go ahead and serve yourself," Tohru replied.
"Of course." he grabbed the plates, setting one down on the counter for Tohru and holding the other in his hands.
group
"Thanks," Tohru said, grabbing his plate and motioning for Davin to go ahead of him.
He smiled a bit and stepped back.
Davin served himself up some food, then stepped back to give Tohru some room.
group
Tohru served himself and sat down at the counter after picking up a fork. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he sat down to eat.
Davin sat down as well and started to eat, tucking into the food hungrily. "Thanks for making this, Tohru." He said after a moment. "'s really good."
group
"Of course," Tohru muttered, sounding a little surprised at the thanks, "I'm glad you like it. This meal is simple enough, so I can make it again sometime."
Davin nodded a little. "I mean…I'm used to ready-made meals from a box, so anything's better than that, I suppose."
group
"I suppose," Tohru agreed, "It's probably a welcome change, huh? That is, assuming we continue to live together. But I mean, we will. At least for now."
He took another few bites. It was clear he was hungry. A bit self-conscious at how sloppy he was being, he slowed himself down.
"Yeah, it is." he replied, smiling softly as he looked over at Tohru, then went back to eating. "Thanks for being willing to do this, Tohru. I'm afraid I'm hopeless at cooking."
group
"I doubt you're hopeless," Tohru laughed, "You just haven't really had much of a chance to learn- and honestly, that's understandable, with you moving place to place all the time."
He nodded a little bit. "Yeah, well. I've tried to follow cookbooks and something always ends up burned to a crisp." he replied with a faint laugh of his own.
group
"Sometimes cookbooks make things a bit more complicated than need be," Tohru replied with a shrug, "And if your brain gets stuck on perfect measurements and checking off lists, sometimes it distracts from the actual process, and you might leave something unattended for too long, or otherwise mess up in a way you didn't expect. I've burned things before. Hell, I've accidentally started a grease fire, and I never heard the end of that."
"Point is, I'm sure you can learn. You just have to find what works best for you. And sometimes that's not cookbooks."
Davin shrugged a little. "Maybe you can teach me?" he suggested, raising his eyebrows curiously as he looked over at Tohru. "Please?" he smiled softly.
group
"Yeah! I mean, I already promised I'd help you, at least a little. Might as well while we're here, right?" Tohru replied, "I mean, tonight you helped me cook a bit. While you didn't do any of the seasoning, you didn't let anything burn. So that's a start."
Davin nodded a little. "Yeah, but I had someone teaching me and right there to make sure I didn't do anything wrong." he pointed out with a smile.
group
"But again, just a start. You have to work your way up. It's not like I was a natural and started out in the kitchen unattended. For a while, my mother wouldn't even let me help at all."
He laughed a little bit.
"And then she'd get upset if I left too much of a mess or anything like that, and ban me again for a while."
"I mean…yeah." he replied with a shrug, laughing a little bit at Tohru's story.
group
(Ahh, I'm sorry, I think I read this and the notif went away so it got lost. You can always bump if you feel the need to.)
"So, Davin. Do you remember much about Kaythani food at all?" Tohru asked, fiddling with his fork a bit.
He shot a glance over, hoping it was okay to talk about.
(it's fine! Alright)
"Mm…bits and pieces. I don't know. I remember my mom cooking it, but…not what exactly she was cooking." he replied slowly.
group
"I see… I was just curious about what kind of flavors, or ingredients, or that sort of thing, that you guys used," Tohru said, "It's all very interesting."
"Yeah. I…" he ran his hands through his hair. "I don't know."
group
"That's alright, of course," Tohru said, "We can always see if we can research that. It's just interesting what you can tell about a people by the food they eat."
He gave a faint smile. "Yeah. We can look it up, I just…don't remember very well."
