"Lightweight," he said with a chuckle, returning his gaze to the ceiling.
Runner's Start (Private)

"Fuck off, I can drink," she took a breath, "I can drink with the best of emm…" her words tapered off to a mumble.
"Doesn't seem like it," he pointed out, gesturing blindly over to her.
group
"Fuck off…" she said again, turning to lay on her stomach with the bottle dangling precariously from her fingers. It was nearly empty already.
"Not likely," he said, then returned to his strategic thinking, folding his hands onto his stomach.
group
She got up again and stumbled over to the kitchen in search of more to drink. It didn't occur to her alcohol-laden mind that she had had enough.
"Maybe you should take it a bit easy," he called after her, "We have training tomorrow."
group
She mumbled something in Italian, then stumbled and flung out her arms to keep her balance.
He sighed. I can't just let her go get some more, or she'll be so hung over she'll look like she has the bubonic plague. Runner stood up with a grunt and gently grabbed Tess's wrist. "Let's just sit back down, alright?"
group
She weakly batted him away, pouting her full lips.
"C'moe, Tess," he insisted, pulling over to the couch and putting his hands on her shoulders. "Sit."
group
She whined in protest, mumbling some more in Italian. But, she wasn't much of a fighter in her drunken state.
He gently pushed her down onto the cushion and sat down next to her, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're ridiculous."
group
She turned and wrapped her arms around his arm, snuggling against him. She was a snuggler while drunk–didn't matter who it was.
He blushed, his entire body going stiff. He had no fucking clue how to cuddle after 8 years of running away from everything/everyone. No one ever got close to him in the short period of time he stayed in places to get to this type of physical affection, so he was like a fish out of water.
group
She rested her forehead against his shoulder as she said softly, "You're comfy…"
He tilted his head at her observation. "Um…..thanks?" Jesus, I should be happy about this, yet all I wanna do is get away. Am I that awkward?
group
She hummed, then did the unthinkable.
Dunk Tessa wasn't a smart Tessa. She just acted on a whim and didn't think about the consequences. So when she moved so that she was hovering over Runner's lap with her arms looped around his neck, she didn't see what was wrong with that.
She pouted her lips again as she looked at him. "Why don't you like me?"
"Oh, god," he whispered to himself, cringing heavily. He tried his best to just keep eye contact and forget everything else.
"Well….it's not that I don't. It's just….I've never had to do stuff like this before. Get to know someone. Start to have feelings for them. I never stayed in one place to get interested in someone like that. So…." he scrunched his nose up. "Uh, all of this is new to me, so it's awkward. It's nothing against you."
group
She cocked her head and sat back so that she was actually sitting down. She looked like a confused puppy as she did so. "You have feelings for me?" she asked, tumbling over her words some. She still didn't see anything wrong with how she was–how up close and personal she was.
"Y-yes," he admitted, opting to stare off into the kitchen instead of continuing eye contact. "I'm just not very good at showing them."
Hopefully she's so drunk that she won't remember anything, he thought with a wince.
group
She tilted her head the other way, her brows twitching together in confusion. She changed position–still on his lap, but instead curled up with her head resting against his chest. "Why? I'm mean…And broken…"
"I…..don't know," he said, frowning slightly. "Maybe it's 'cause we kind of have to trust each other in a situation like this. Maybe it's 'cause you saved my life. Maybe it was just fate. I don't know. Like I said, all of these feelings are new to me."
group
She traced idle patterns over his chest as she listened. "Mmmmmm…" Her eyes drooped some, but she remained awake.
"And I know the only reason why all of this is happening is because you're drunk. That's why I'm hoping your drunk enough to forget all of this by the morning. You wouldn't bat an eye my way when you're sober," he said, his frown growing.
group
She lifted her head to look up at him, eyes darting around his face. Then falling to his lips and lingering.
As I said, drunk Tessa was impulsive. Whatever was on her mind wasn't exactly the best thing to be considering.
He was zoned out, just kind of speaking whatever was on his mind. "It's fair, though. It's not like I'm anything special. You're a half dragon fucking badass warrior, and I'm just a tubby wanderer who's own mom kicked him out the house."
group
"At least you had a mom," she said quietly, her eyes dropping down as she curled up even closer against Runner's front.
"Having a mom doesn't make me an attractive person. Hell, I'd probably still call her momma if I got the chance. And I'm in way over my head with this shit. What the hell am I supposed to do against a demon lord? He's not stupid enough to cast a spell my way. I'm gonna be slaughtered."
group
She sighed and moved yet again so that their faces were mere inches apart. "Shut up," she mumbled. "You think too much. Doubt too much. "Her hands move to cup his face, her eyes daring him to doubt her as well. "You're better than that–I know it. Stop putting yourself down. That's my thing. You're not allowed to be the self-hating one. I forbid it." She gave him an adorably stern look, as she couldn't quite muster an actual stern look.
