"Then tell me how I'm supposed to do this," he said, sounding deflated.

group

She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in the crook of his neck. "You're more powerful than you think. Smarter. Your plans are good. You are good. Believe in yourself."

"Again, you're drunk and delusional," he said, but he seemed to become more and more comfortable with the situation.

group

"Drunk I may be, but I still stand by my words," she mumbled against his skin, not making a move to move away.

He let out a sigh, slowly sliding his arms around her waist and just accepting the situation.

group

She tensed up slightly, then relaxed and hummed softly in response. She hadn't expected him to do such a thing, so it was a little startling.

"I'm scared," he admitted. "Terrified, actually. I still have no clue why I was in that water, and now I have all this shit going on. How do you deal with it?"

group

"I've seen the worst the world has to offer, so I just put on a brave face and accept my fate. If I die, so be it. Good riddance, actually." She spoke quietly.

He frowned at her response, shivering when he felt her breath on his skin. "People would miss you."

group

"Doubt it," she said miserably. "Just a hot head with anger issues that freaks out in basements, underground, closets, and any locked place," she muttered, still speaking against his skin.

"What about those Vanguard people?" he asked, rubbing her back gently.

group

She frowned. "I suppose. But they're better off without me. I'm more trouble than help…"

"You legitimately just saved my life a few hours ago. You are not."

group

She shook her head, refusing to believe it. "I have moments, but they're selfish. I'm selfish."

"How would saving my life be selfish, hm? How could it have benefited you at all?"

group

"My ass would've been fried by your mother. That chick's scary…" she mumbled childishly.

"I don't think my mother even crossed your mind," he said, nudging her with his chin, "You did it 'cause under that shell you've put up for everyone to see, you're a good person."

group

"Lies…" she hissed, shifting slightly.

"Just as you stand by your words," he said, slouching a bit to make himself comfortable, "I stand by mine."

group

She took a deep breath, then slowly released it. She was getting tired, but she didn't feel like moving.

"Do you want me to take you up to your bed?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

group

"Mmm…" she hummed, eyes drooping until they were fully closed. She didn't know how much longer she'd stay awake.

"Is that a yes or a no?" he asked, tilting his head.

group

"Sure…" She snuggled probably as close to him as she dared, tightening her hold on him.

He grunted slightly, getting to his feet as he held Tess bridal style. "I need to get in shape," he huffed as he walked up the stairs.

group

"You carried me before…" she muttered distantly.

"And then I slept for 5 hours straight," he said as he reached the top of the stairs and walked into their shared room.

group

"Not my point." Her voice was steadily getting quieter and quieter as she spoke, her eyes not even making the effort of opening.

(no clue what I'm listening to currently, but I'm not complaining)

"Then what is your point?" he asked, making his way over to one of the beds.

group

"I dunno… Strength isn't everythin'?"
