"You're not making any sense," he said, leaning over to set her down on the bed.

group

"No… I'm tired…" she murmured. When she was set onto the bed, she sighed and grabbed a pillow to hold against her body.

He straightened up with a small smile. "G'night, Tess," he said, turning around to leave the room.

group

She cracked open an eye to watch him leave, hugging the pillow tighter. "G'night…Runner…"

(Should we cut to the training the next day)

group

(works for me. You want Tessa to be watching him do stretches and whatnot?)

(Sure)

"Fuck…" he grumbled, pulling his knee to his chest with a wince. He'd changed into a pair of black shorts and a white shirt when Tess had woken up, which wasn't a surprise. While she ate breakfast, he decided to try and start stretching. He found that an entire day of fighting made his body feel like it was sent through a meat grinder, which wasn't very fun.

group

Tessa was lazily picking at her nails, then inspecting them every once in a while. "If stretching is kicking your ass, then you are not ready for all-out war," she commented, flicking her eyes up to look at Runner.

He hadn't even looked at her all day. Last night's events were still too awkward for him to even hold a full conversation with her.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," he said, switching to the other leg. "I get it. I've never had to fight an all out war, though. Cut me some slack."

group

Tessa perked her head up and stretched her arm out. A black, shadowy falcon with beady red eyes materialized in the air and swooped down, perching on her outstretched arm. It had a piece of paper clamped in its sharp beak. She held out her other hand, and the falcon dropped the paper without complaint, turning its head to preen its feathers. Still holding up the bird, she opened the letter and read it, eyes darting back and forth.

He managed a glance over at her, a frown of confusion contorting his forehead.
"What's that?" he asked.

group

"What's what?" she asked, still reading with a passive face. The bird turned its gaze onto Runner and didn't look away.

"The whole bird swooping down and dropping a parchment like Hogwarts," he responded, beginning to do lunges.

group

"Drax works as a messenger," she said, waving the hand holding the paper dismissively. "And I've gotten an answer."

"What is the answer, then?" he asked.

group

"Our helpful and clearly bored warriors have agreed to help us. They're still hella pissed that Kali nearly wiped out their entire race."

"That's…..good, I guess," he said, beginning to stretch his arms.

group

She raised a brow and pocketed the note, then pet Drax. "You're acting weird today."

He didn't respond, pretending to focus on his stretches. She doesn't remember, then.

group

She ducked her head and waved at him. "Hellooo?" Drax squawked and picked at her hair, distracting her from Runner as she scowled and attempted to shoo the bird away.

"It's nothing," he said, trying to wave her off. "I'm fine."

group

She yelped and fell over, Drax still messing with her. She was thoroughly distracted from pestering Runner as the shadowy falcon pestered her.

He sighed, pausing from his stretches to try and help her with the bird. "This is a bit silly."

group

Drax backed off the moment Runner came over, squawking and flying up into a nearby tree. Tessa pushed her hair out of her face and scowled up at the bird.

He offered his hand. "You were just mugged by a bird."

group

"Fuck off," she muttered, grabbing his hand and letting him help pull her up. "He never acts like that…"

Runner shrugged, immediately pulling his hand away as soon as she got her balance back and looking away from her.

group

She studied him with narrowed eyes, trying to figure out why he was acting so weird. Last night was a blur to her–all she could clearly remember was him carrying her up to bed.

"Let's just get to training," he said quickly, shoving his hands in his pockets.

group

"Okay…" she said slowly, then headed out into the middle of the dusty yard behind the house. With a toe, she flicked up two bamboo staffs and held out one for Runner to grab. "Let's start with your reflexes."
