“Whoa,” Lindsay gasped, awed. “Your wings are beautiful…” She was impressed by the magnificence of the wings that the other girl possessed. At least one person here had powers that did more good than harm.

Mya looked at the ground, shy, and smiled the tiniest bit more. "Thank you," she replied softly, and took advantage of the fact that her wings were out already. She curled them gently around her body, as if she was giving herself a hug.
“So what do you suppose we should do? Some of the others just want to get drunk and waste their life away…not that it’s much of a life here, but still. There must be something meaningful we can do…like try to escape?” Lindsay offered, saying the last part very quietly in case anyone was watching.

“So what do you suppose we should do? Some of the others just want to get drunk and waste their life away…not that it’s much of a life here, but still. There must be something meaningful we can do…like try to escape?” Lindsay offered, saying the last part very quietly in case anyone was watching.
There was a long pause. Finally, Mya took a deep breath and, “… I don’t know,” she replied softly. All she wanted right now was to see her brother, Hikaru. Where was he? She hoped he hadn’t gotten into too much trouble looking for her. Her parents wouldn’t be too happy if he dropped out of college just to go find her. They didn’t even know she was apparently an “Oddity.” Since her ability was flying, it scared her at first. But, she had learned long ago to overcome her fear of heights.
Lindsay bit her lip. “Hmm…” she mused. “Maybe I can learn something by listening to the thoughts of someone who knows?” She contemplated it.
| Makarios |
After being practically left alone, Makarios wandered towards the far edge of the wall. Why? He wasn't sure. Maybe freedom called to him already from the other side of the massive structure. Maybe the unsettling truth that he would spend the rest of his life in loneliness and misery, confined to this cursed place, already ripped away at his sanity. He drew in a short breath as he pressed the palm of his hand against the cool stone wall. Beyond this, he said to himself, is my life. It's not here, and it never will be. If I want to live, I have to find a way to get out there.

Mya looked up at Lindsay, a little surprised. Personally, she thought purposely reading the mind or listening to the thoughts of someone else without them knowing was an invasion of privacy, but she didn't say anything. She opened her mouth to say something, but decided against it and closed it, looking down once more.
Lindsay winced at the thought. It wasn't like she could help it. Besides, the fact that they were all being kept here against their will was wrong too. So if she read someone's mind to escape, that wasn't wrong, right? Ugh, her power and the ethics of it were so complicated. She bit her lip, not saying anything either for a moment. "Well, we can't just live our lives in this place…" she mumbled.

"Perhaps…," Mya mused. She very much wanted to be able to see her brother again. He was probably worried sick, and she hoped he hadn't done anything stupid yet. But all her worries would disappear once she got back to his side. She depended on him a lot more than she let on, and she cared a lot about him.
Lindsay sighed, looking around. Was she truly the only here with the growing need to escape? She may be optimistic, but living in this place until she died was not an ideal scenario for her. One could almost see the thoughts in her head racing, her brown eyes calculating.
