Gerard is generally very friendly. He has a strong desire to help others and an aversion to any kind of confrontation which makes him fairly approachable even if he is a little shy. Gerard is very intelligent, though it's not always evident as he can be scattered at times. He is also very set in his ways and typically doesn't like change, even if most people would agree it is for the better. Gerard is also very nervous, paranoid, and has a hard time trusting others which is largely attributed to his abusive upbringing.

Gerard works mainly as a healer in New Vellarton. However, when he is not doing that, he has many research projects that he likes to work on. His main project is trying to figure out the origin of his powers.

Gerard was born in Saylen, the secret headquarters of The Patrol. He is the youngest of six. His father, Victor, is the head of the Patrol, but Gerard was always closer to his mother, Helena, who was much kinder to him. His mother passed away when he was only seven, leaving him at the mercy of his father and five older brothers who constantly ganged up on him.

When Gerard was twelve, he discovered that he had aerokinetic abilities. This was a giant problem since his father was the leader of a group that was dedicating to getting rid of people with abilities. Gerard did his best to keep his abilities a secret, but he became incredibly depressed in doing so to the point where he contemplated taking his own life.

When he turned fourteen, Gerard was to be initiated into the Patrol just like his brothers. The initiation involved killing one of the Patrol's prisoners, and Gerard tried to put it off but in the end was unable to avoid it. When it came time for him to kill the prisoner, he couldn't do it. His father killed the prisoner for him, hoping that he would be able to convince the rest of the Patrol that Gerard had passed the initiation. However, his father was furious at him and Gerard panicked and accidentally revealed his powers.

This of course just further angered his father. He tortured Gerard the same way he did with many of the prisoners. However, his father did not want anyone else to know about Gerard's abilities. Rather than killing him instantly, Gerard was brought back to the house and locked up in his room while his father came up with ways to make Gerard's planned death to look either like a suicide or an accident. Rather than accept his fate, Gerard decided he would run away or die trying.

He was able to escape the town, but fell into a nearby river only shortly after. He almost drowned, but he was rescued by Alexis and Eli who were on their way to New Vellarton. They initially were not planning to take Gerard with them, but when they found out about his powers they let him tag along.

Once he arrived in New Vellarton, Gerard worked alongside Alexis as a Healer. He chose this career as a way of reconciling with his past, as he feels like he is actively working agains the Patrol by trying to help those who have been hurt by them.

Gerard does not have a formal education. Most of his knowledge of healing comes from information that was passed onto him from his friend's father, as well as some of his own experimenting.
