And just as soon as the comfort came, it left again. She knew why though. She knew he was scared to hurt her even more. But all she craved was some type of comfort. Any stability in her life.

"Cass… Gosh, I want to kiss you so bad… But I don't want to hurt you more than you already are. So, I guess… If I do, just push me away, because I can't keep away from you for long," he said, his voice an octave lower than normal before he pressed his lips against hers again.
His voice made chills shoot down her spine but she didn't mind. He wouldn't hurt her, she knew that. The comfort he gave her would mask it anyway.
Sterling pressed his lips harder against hers, asking for a response from her.
She didn't mind. It didn't hurt. If anything, it was helping her forget about everything else.
After a while, Sterling pulled back. He rubbed his nose against hers before kissing her forehead. “Sorry…”
"Don't apologise. I swear, you're too sweet to me."
“I was raised to be polite. My mother had very high standards for me,” Sterling chuckled.
"Wow, that must've been tough."
Sterling shrugged. “Not really. I’m glad for what she taught me.”
"At least yours got the chance to…" She mumbled under her breath. Her parents had been killed during an assignment when she was 6 so she'd grown up in an ophanage.
Sterling frowned a bit. “Sorry, Cass… I guess… Yeah. Sorry…”
"No no, it's fine. Don't worry about it."
“Are you sure?” Sterling asked softly.
"Very sure. It's alright." She smiled a little.
Sterling nodded slowly. “Okay… Good… Is there anything else you want?”
My life back? "I want this week to be over. I know we came here to win but I really don't feel safe and I'm starting to wonder if I can ask to go home."
“Cass… Wouldn’t that mean that you have to go back to…” Sterling trailed off, hoping she would know what he meant.
"The agency? Not exactly. The orphanage? Yeah…I don't hate it there it's just that I'm gonna miss being here with you."
“You don’t have a place of your own yet?” Sterling asked, though he wasn’t exactly surprised. “You know, I’m renting an apartment near the campus… A roommate might be nice.”
"Actually, I do." She brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. "Sorry, I'm just used to living at the orphanage. I still need to finish up the paperwork before it's officially mine through."
Sterling smiled at her softly. “That’s good. I’m glad you have a place to stay.”
"Not to mention, I wanna get back to my cats. Nyx and Storm probably haven't shut up since I left."
"Ah, yeah… I'm sure they miss you," Sterling chuckled. "Your poor cats."
"Hey I like never leave the house unless I have to so they're probably hoping if they meow enough it'll be like a bat signal for me to come back."
Sterling laughed gently. “Yeah. ‘Come home mom! We’re hungry and we miss you!’” he said in a high-pitched voice, mimicking the cats.
"Okay, one, Storm is a boy and two, Mark has an extra key so he checks on and feeds the cats when I'm gone."
Sterling waved her words away. “Eh… Cats don’t talk, anyway, so I was still incorrect without your corrections.”
"You don't know that!" She giggled lightly.
“Sure, right… They totally talk. Just, like, when we’re not around and stuff…”
