He follows quietly.

Eden opened her refrigerator, scanning the contents. “I have left over pizza from last night. Do you like pizza?” She said, her face still in the fridge.

he types and shows her. 'sounds good.'

“Cool,” Eden replied, pulling out the slices. “How many do you want?”

He held up two fingers.

“Me too.” She pulled out four slices. “Cold or warm?”

He types warm.

“Alrighty, then.” She wanted hers cold because she was a college student at heart. She popped the other two slices in the microwave for a few minutes, before pulling them back out once finished. She handed him the plate, walking back over to the couch with her own.

He followed quietly.

“Do you wanna watch it again, or do you want to do something else?” She asked, before taking a bite of her cold pizza.

'I don't care' he typed.

“Why don’t you tell me a little more about yourself.” Eden suggested. She felt that she was a fairly open person, so she was confident that she wouldn’t have to be prompted later on. She got the feeling that she had to be straight forward with Jack in her requests. Not implicit about it.

'What do you want to know?'

Eden shrugged, “I dunno. Stuff. Anything, really. Fond memories, funny stories, anything. I want to know you.”

'Well first off is that I'm mute.' He states. 'The reason for it is something I keep quiet.'

“You don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to. I want you to feel comfortable with me, and if that means that you and I don’t know everything about each other, then that’s the way it is.” She said, taking another bite of pizza, hoping she was saying the right things. She didn’t look at him because she really didn’t want to find out.

He sighs. 'I can speak…I just…Have a hard time so typing is what I do.'

Eden nodded. “I want to say I understand, but I guess I really don’t. So what I mean is that I want to understand.” She shrugged again. “I don’t know. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.” She says. God, I should stop. I don’t know what I’m talking about. I don’t know what I’m doing. I don’t know if I can help. Maybe I never will. she thought to herself, watching Jack’s hands for his response.

(I feel dumb rn)

(Also, I did research, but I still don’t really know anything if that makes sense.)

He looks at her. and moves his mouth. "I-I…c-can if I…t-try." he looked like he was struggling.

Eden looked at him, setting her pizza down on her plate. “I don’t want you to feel that you have to do anything for me. If you want to do it for you, I will support you, but I don’t expect—I don’t—I only want to do things for yourself and not because you feel that I want you to do it, or be that way. That’s what relationships are supposed to be.”

He nods slightly.

She looks down again, running over the encounter, wondering if she said that right thing. “I promise to be there for you, whatever you need, whenever you need it. All you have to do is tell me what you want, what you need, and I will be there. You can wake me up in the middle of the night, find me in the middle of the day. I want to be there for you, and not just because of this,” she held up her hand, gesturing to the string tied around her finger, “but because I want to.”

He hugged her tightly. "T-thank you…" he said quietly.

Eden squeezed him just a little. “I mean it. I promise.”

He looks at her and smiles softly.

She smiles back, petting his hair in one pass before letting her hand fall back down to her lap. “Thank you for hanging out with me.”

He nods. and types, 'Of course! Why wouldn't I?' He said holding the hand with the string up close to him.

Eden shrugs, “I dunno. People don’t want me around much.” She smiled, still. Picking up her half eaten slice of pizza, and taking another bite. She didn’t want to dwell on it. She was really just answering his question.
