Nature
Valdar is motivated by a desire to be part of something larger than himself. There was a time, when he was young and brash, where he sought only glory in battle and fame at home.
Though not yet an old man, he has become wise beyond his years thanks to his experiences with the rebellion and his friendship with the worldly monk Bruce Bahashir, who has taught him humility and patience.
Now he truly follows the creed of his order and seeks only the spread justice, freedom and compassion wherever he may go.
Valdar was raised in a society that values honor, civility, honesty and freedom before all other things. As such he tends to be surprised when the people he meets do not conform to his own practices. If it were not for the watchful and pragmatic eyes of his comrades, he would surely have been killed by means of some devious trap or lie.
In addition to his rigid and inflexible personal code he is remarkably strong willed. When he has set a goal for himself he will often pursue it to the detriment of others, at least until his singlemindedness causes enough harm to snap him out of his daze.
Though relatively unskilled with his hands, Valdar has a way with words. He lacks the quick wit and silver tongue of his comrade Boris Velkov but makes up for it with genuine sincerity and the ability to motivate even the most hopeless individual to accomplish great things.
Valdar is a passionate collector of fine armaments and often spends free time bartering for exellent examples of his prefered craft.

History
Born as Valdar Drovog to his parents Hogrom and Chelissi Drovog, the young man who would eventually become Valdar Firespear led a life typical of a young orc boy. He grew up around craftsmen; his father was a well known blacksmith in the area surrounding his home village of Chugash. From a young age Valdar had appreciation and an affinity with weapons and armor. He learned how to don and doff the leather, chain and scale mail armor that his father typically crafted and he lent his hand amongst his father's forge and around his village. Valdar grew unsually tall and strong and quickly displayed an aptitude for dueling and sparring.
Upon reaching the age of 15 he struck out on his own as a young man. He spent some time traveling his home country on foot, often marching long hours in heavy armor carrying excessive loads. He took jobs as a courier or messanger from town to town and gained a reputation amongst the locals he helped as a man of integirty, grit and character.
Shortly after his 17'th birthday he returned to a village that he frequented to find it being harrassed by brigands and theives. Foolishly, he challenged their ringleader to single combat. Luckily for him, a host of Paladins of the Order of the Firespear were also passing through at the time and when he was set upon by more men than he could handle the paladins came to his aid.
Despite his brash actions the leader of the host saw in him a promising fire and offered to take him to their fortress at Castle Firespear to be trained as a paige. Valdar saw an opportunity for fame a glory and accepted the proposal eagerly.
For ten years Valdar trained as an apprentice paladin to that very same man, the paladin named Horoth Firespear. Under his tutelage Valdar learned what it meant to show compassion and to weild his faith as a beacon for others to follow. The two became fast friends and when Valdar was finally initiated into the order he named his ceremonial blade Horoth, for the mentor who had taught him how to weild it; his sheild he named Hogrom, for the father who had raised him.
Upon recieving the rlics of his order and the armor of a Paladin of the Order of the Firespear, the newly titled Valdar Firespear set forth on his Trail of Embers to sow warmth and justice where there was none.
For four years he traveled his homeland, his armor and his blade guaranteeing him a warm meal and a soft bed wherever he traveled. He often found his way to new islands via a grateful ship captain who owed the order a favor. Valdar made some name for himself amongst the Orchalum Islands but felt that stopping the occasional pirate or theif was hardly the sort of work a paladin should be doing.
While in Orsinus Prime awaiting passage to another port he overheard talk of civil strife in Imperium Aeternum, whispers of nightly kidnappings, pogroms and unsafe roads caught his attention. He found the first ship he could to this new and foreign land and immediately set off to prove himself worthy of the Firespear name.
