Sterling blinked at her. โYou realize that he has a girlfriend, right? And that itโs probably not the greatest idea to say stuff like that?โ
๐๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ช๐ฝ๐ฎ ๐ก๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฑ ๐๐ช๐ฌ๐ด๐ผ!
She looked up at him. "I've told her that I think he's cute, she doesn't care. Macy's pretty chill." She shrugged. "Besides, you're pretty cute yourself." She slapped her hand over her mouth and blushed. She'd said it before she thought about it.
Sterling blinked at her before giving her that famous half-grin again. โOh? Well, thank you, darling,โ he purred with a wink.
"I didn't mean to say that." She mumbled, twirling her hair around her finger nervously.
โMaybe not, but I can see from your reaction that you still think itโs true,โ Sterling said, grinning as he leaned closer.
She glanced up at him, willing her face to lower her blush as she smiled nervously.
"Your blush is cute. Don't stop," Sterling said, winking at her.
She looked away, her hair covering her face. "That's not true."
"It is, actually," Sterling chuckled gently as he brushed her hair out of her face.
"No it isn't, shush." She giggled, refusing to meet his eyes.
Sterling's grin widened as he put a hand under her chin to lift her gaze to meet his. "But it is."
His touch sent sparks under her skin but she chose to ignore it. "Oh, but it isn't."
"Is too," Sterling argued, leaning slightly closer.
"Is not." She leaned slightly closer as a challenge.
Sterling continued to grin at her before they were interrupted by someone talking over the loudspeakers. He sighed and pulled away, looking at the center of the room.
โYou all may go get your food. We are going to call you up by table, though, so it is not hectic,โ the headmaster declared. โTable one may go first.โ
Cassie sat back and let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Had he been able to feel her heart racing? Boys never made her nervous, what was so different about him? She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, studying his features.
Sterling glances at their table number. They were six, so about in the middle of the wait. Great.
He was oblivious to Cassieโs looks, but he was still smiling from before. He had been so closeโฆ
He had almost kissed her. Almost. Just the thought of it made her shudder and smile. What was it about him that made him so addictive? She wasn't completely sure.
โTable number two may get their food,โ the headmaster called.
โWe are going to be here forever,โ Sterling sighed.
She shrugged but didn't say anything. She was still just looking at him out the corner of her eye. He was really cute.
Sterling set his elbow on the table and rested his chin in his hand, watching the other students boredly. He was starving, so having to wait was really annoying to him at the moment.
Unconsciously, she slowly began drawing his profile on the table in front of her with a finger. It was at a time like this that she really wished she had her sketchbook with her.
A while later, table six was finally called. Sterling stood up quickly and glanced over at Cassie, offering her his hand. โYou ready to finally get food?โ
She shook her head. "Nah, I'm not all that hungry. But grab an extra roll for me, yeah?" She smiled a little. As an assassin, she was always taught to never eat from anywhere that wasn't proven to be safe. Enemies were everywhere and she couldn't risk anything.
Sterling raises an eyebrow at her and continued to hold his hand out. โIf you donโt eat now, you wonโt be able to eat until breakfast. You know they donโt allow outside food, right?โ
"Yeah I know. I'm just not hungry." She shrugged. She'd gone for days at a time without food, skipping one meal wasn't going to kill her.
โAll rightโฆ If youโre sure,โ Sterling have in, giving her one last, worried look before getting in line.
She smiled a little at his worry. He didn't even know her but he was still worried. How cute. Or he just doesn't want you to die.
As soon as Sterling got through the line, he sat back in his seat beside Cassandra.
โHere, I got these for you,โ he said as he handed her an apple and a roll.
She chuckled lightly and looked up at him. "You couldn't have gotten some butter while you were at it?" She teased, taking a bite of her roll.
