Stanzgar is the political capital of the Stanzgarian Confederacy and the former seat of the old Kingdom of Stanzgar, a sprawling northern metropolis of wood, brick, smoke, industry, and river trade. Built along the harbor and surrounding waterways, the city feels less like a traditional capital and more like a vast industrial and commercial machine, where shipyards, warehouses, workshops, foundries, and crowded markets stretch for miles beneath a constant haze of furnace smoke and sea mist. Though not the largest Stanzgarian city, it remains one of the most influential, serving as the administrative, naval, and political heart of the Confederacy. Towering above the city atop a great hill stands Castle Stanzgar, an immense palatial fortress that began as a fortified manor during the early days of the kingdom before generations of rulers expanded it into a sprawling royal and governmental complex overlooking the harbor below. Near the docks lies the infamous Dirkhill Forge, a colossal dwarven-built industrial works occupying much of the forge district, its furnace glow and smoke visible across the city at all hours. Powered in part through bound elemental spirits and ancient industrial systems, Dirkhill supplies weapons, ship components, machinery, and metalworks throughout much of the Confederacy. Stanzgar is a city defined by movement, ambition, and opportunity. Merchants, nobles, laborers, sailors, soldiers, engineers, diplomats, and fortune seekers from across the Stanzgarian world crowd its streets, canals, taverns, and markets in pursuit of wealth, influence, and advancement. Loud, crowded, and perpetually active, the city stands as one of the clearest expressions of Stanzgarian civilization itself: practical, prosperous, politically complicated, and always in motion.
